Which VideoCard should I use??

I have 2 cards laying around..not sure if either are "verified" by BF2/EA for use with BF2 but hey..... I have used them both and see very similar results...so i want opinions...WHICH SHOULD I USE???

[1] NVidia Geforce 4 5500FX AGP 256meg, card has only RGB and SVideo out

OR

[1] ATI Radeon 9500 AGP 128meg, card has both RGB and DVI out...

....yeah i know...256 should be better....but I dont know if the Radeon 9500 chipset is simply better....or maybe not... WHATCA THINK???

lol serisouly! Thats what I did and I love my gameplay performance. But if your not gonna upgrade, I would use the 5500, because it has more memory, and if you have a gig of ram than at low settings you can get really good solid fps with that card. Or you can just uprade

Go wit the ATI card and unlock the extra pipelines, flash the bios, and you'll have a 9700 Pro.

I agree! If you have one of the original 9500 non-pro cards it will unlock easily. Then you will have a superior GPU running 8 pixel pipelines and a 256bit memory bus. That will run circles around an FX5500 that only has 4 pipelines and a 128bit memory bus. Be careful about flashing the bios because many of them could not handle 9700pro clock speeds. If it is a soft-modable card you are virtually guaranteed to have a 9700 non pro without messing with the bios.

The soft-modable 9500 is identified by the memory chip configuration. It will have the chips laid out in an "L" patern around the gpu rather than in a straight line as on the 9500pro or the later 9500 non-pro. Even if you have a later 9500np you can still unlock the extra pixel pipelines, but you would be stuck with 128bit memory bus, thus it would mod into a 9500pro.


Softmodding the card is easy. All you have to do is download Omega radeon drivers, and when they are installing, select the "softmod" option and it is all done for you.
