Hey guys I just wanted to give a bit of advise to those with either an LGA775 or an AMD based machine.
I just recently purchased a Thermaltake Blue Orb II and all I can say is WOW.
I have this installed on my AMD Athlon64 3700+ San Deigo and I am amazed at the temps I am seeing. I will remind that only just recently put this cooler on and it has yet to go through a "break in" period of the recommended 100 hours.
On idle I am seeing about 25*C on my CPU, and no higher then 30*C on load. My case temps seem to coinside with these readings and even with my graphics card heavily overclocked never reach about 31*C.
Pros: Super efficient, Powder coated copper (blue), its MASSIVE!
Cons: Weight, Pressure required to install, size
I listed the size in both the pros and cons. You need quite a bit of room around the CPU socket to install this baby, but its well worth it. I have a DFI UT LanParty nF4 SLi board and its fits very nicely, just clears the ram so it keeps that cool as well. I tend to like larger HSF combos as I find the more surface the better the cooling (anyone can tell you this is most often the case). The other pros are that it is extremely efficient in its cooling (120mm fan). I cleaned the CPU and the HSF with ArtiClean 2 step cleaning solution and then put Artic Silver 5 on there, and as I said before 25-30*C.
The cons are primarily its size and weight. But don't worry Tt includes a back mounting bracket that is great. The other issue I had is it requires quite a bit of pressure to install. More then I was initially comfortable with, but it leaves no doubt in your mind that it is securely on the board, so thats nice.
Anyways, I just thought I'd give my 2 cents on this issue. I know a lot of people are looking for coolers, and I really enjoy having this one. My temps are much lower then a friend of mine who has a Zalman on his. Oh and one las thing there are blue LEDs in the fan, they don't glow super bright, but its pretty classy and I like it.
