Cable modem

Hey Guys,
I was at my Cousins House working on his Pc and he was getting a DL speed of about 50kbps with a cable connection. I tried messing with everything I could think of from the PC end but nothing changed. It is a brand new Dell with 256 ram . Any idea what the problem is?

It depends upon the server traffic as well, most people forget that.

i'm on dsl and i get 2.7 mbs...

I get 4.8 mbps download and 355 kbps upload.

Wrong.........it depends like King said on the Server traffic, and your ISP primarily. Your RAM won't neccasarily dictate your connect, but more would definately help with page loads, server loads and so on. I know I played BF2 on 512 RAM and that was gay, so 256 RAM is definately gonna be lag HELL if you can even get in-game without crashing that is.

Go to www.Ewido.com and DL thier anti-malware program and get rid of any spyware on the system. Also go to start-run-msconfig and uncheck any services running that are not critical.

With my roadrunner connect I'm almost always under a 100 ping in-game unless the server sucks, but depending on who you're ISP is you might no tbe as fast. I know ComCast doesn't have JAck on Roadrunner

I'm with you Jones, I have RR as well my ping is usually around 50-60, sometimess lower.

i Have Adelphia Cable 4 MB down and 1MB up.

Just a Quick update: We found out that the slow speed he was getting is what he signed up for. My Cousin did not realize that he had been paying nearly $40 bucks a month for a dl speed of 385 kbps. It did not even enter my mind that cable would sell a speed so slow (a third the speed of basic DSL).

He called the cable company and they said that if he signed up for one year he could get it for $20 a month. In the end he got a 3000kbps dl and 300+ upload for 26 a month.

So our problem is solved until i find a real good deal on a gb of ram.
