    r580 has 48 pipes!!!!

"R580 GPU has 48 pixel shader processors and higher clocks than R520 (a.k.a. Radeon X1800). Radeon X1900 uses a 90nm process also found on Radeon X1800. The internal briefing also confirmed that there will be two separate versions of the card, RX1900CF "Master Card" and RX1900 "Crossfire Ready" card. Like the Radeon X1800 series, you will need at least one master card to enable Crossfire support. Avivo and Shader Model 3.0 will also appear on Radeon X1900"

it will also be released in january according to ati

Just as I have been saying for so long "The X1800 fell behind, expect ATI to release a X1850 or X1900 pretty quickly".

That is great news! Hopefully this will sway a few people into waiting for the X1900, so the 7800GTX 512mb's will be easier for me to get!

Where did you find that it will cost $1,000?

Oh yeah, and I noticed that someone (and the topic title, now that I look at it) refered to it as having "48 pipes." It does not claim to have 48 pipes. It has 16 pipes with 48 pixel shaders.

This will work out just fine for me, because the release of the x1900 might help drive the high prices of the x1800 down a little over the next few months. Then when I upgrade to my dual x1800 system like I plan to in the next five-six months, it'll still be a top of the line system but it may not hurt my wallet so much.

                  I kinda figured that.

It probably won't cost anywhere near that. Some of the beefiest x1800 cards are only $559-$600, so I'd say max $800 for the biggest of them. $700 for a smaller one.

No way, if its better then the 512 gtx, its goign to be more expensive, and that meants 800 at least for the crappiest one.

ok basically, a 6800ultra, or a 7800gt, can basiclly play any game on high, for the most part. i mean, if you get a x1900, it would be a pointless waste of money, and by the time new games come out that it would actually be worth buying for, new cards will be out.

I agree with you there. It's like that with every generation of video cards. They're always the "top of the line" and "way overpowered" until something even more absurd comes along.

Personally, I hope that ATI sticks with the x1900 for a good long time. We don't need another xXX50 varient floating around out there. They are releasing way too many cards right now. After the release of the R580, their new x-fire tech and RD580 mobo chipsets should be their main concern. If they continue with this "new GPU every month" It just isn't going to work out.

                          pixel shaders not pipes.

you know once this comes out, nvidia will have something come out that will top this.. It will be a never ending race.
