Ok so I have a cheapo 450w PSU that came with my case. And it has been performing nicley with one optical drive, one hard drive, and a nvidia 6800gs. But now, I just bought a second card for SLi, and I noticed on the slizone site, that you need a minimum of 25A coming out of your 12v line for dual 6800's. the thing is, their "mid range" computer that required 25A was, two opitcal drive, one hard drive, a PCI sound card, socket 939 CPU, and 2 6800's. My current PSU is only 18A. Should I take my chances and hope my current one will work? or should I just go shill out 70+$ for a SLi compatible PSU?

Yes...If you don't you risk causing serious damage to not only your cards but other parts as well. Also for long term gaming you run into issues. Just spend the extra 70 it will be worth it.Originally posted by sackynut

I am no expert so dont take my words to facts, i say try it see what happens, i think you might be ok, is not like your runing two 7800GTX's, my friend had a 6800GT and his power supply could no give it enought power all the computer did, was as lower the clocks on the card automaticly, by the way it was the nvidia drivers that did it.
As soon as he exited the game, a window came up saying that his card was not getting sufficient power and because of that the GPU clock had been lowered, to restore the clock just restart the computer.
Computer now days have alot of safety nets so, you can risk it, or buy and new one and be safe, by the way what brand name is the power supply you have now?Comment

Just anothing proof, is i try to OC my cpu, and i guess my memory is not good enough so anything above 3.6 my computer reboots and goes back to 3.2, and guess what? no harm no foul.Comment
