BFG GeForce 6800 OC or PNY 6600 GT?

hello all,

i am currently chomping at the bit to get a new vid card to replace my HIS 9600 XT.

i am currently looking at these two cards

my system specs

amd athlon xp 2600+ @ 2.018 GHz
MSI K7N2 Delta-L
Corsair 1024 MB PC3200
Kingston VRam 512x2 PC3200
ThermalTake 420 watt psu
Dual WD Caviar 120 GB HD

i realize that my system is quite old (will be 3 years old in feb) but i just want to make it last just a bit longer.

any suggestions?

If you like overclocking the 6800 is great. Its also AGP so theres a chance unlocking the extra pipes can be done. Stick a Zalman VGA cooler on there if you want and you can get some nice overclocks!

If you want to stay stock then go for the 6600GT.

Personally I would go for 6600GT, becuase of the GDDR3 ram, the 6800 only has DDR.

Lol, XFX and PNY have the highest failure rates. 'Nuf said. Doesn't matter how good they are, they're the worst in the list. Its funny this is even an issue since those are the only two makers that are actually bad, lol.

BFG Tech all the way.. You can't beat their lifetime warranty! I glady pay extra for a BFG, even if XFX, and all them are cheaper.

WTF? I could of agreed with PNY, but XFX? Most people on respected forums have XFX. Where did you get that info from?

PNY are the best i always get them and when i got a BFG i got lower frame rates wtf and when i had a PNY i got 15fps + on the same settings i know this is gonna start a flame war but its your opinions agaisnt overs so...

What kind of a comment was that? "Most people on respected forums have XFX..." wow...ok, what do you even call a respected Forum? Because I know that XtremeSystems, OC Forums, and Tech-Forums all agree that PNY and XFX are the big no-no's of the videocard market.

You might have gotten an advanced version of the videocard. Other than that, there is no way one brand will give you better performance than another brand though.

Respectable meaning they perform like they're supposed to or they don't fail?

For eVGA, maybe .1% of their cards fail. Thats 1 in 1000.

For XFX, maybe 5% of their cards fail. Thats 50 in 1000 (or 1 in 20).

1 on 20 is pretty good, meaning that MAYBE a card will fail, but compare that to 1 in 1000.

Picture a room with 50 people in it. One person in that room has a defective XFX card. Now picture a room with 1000 people in it. One person in that room has a defective eVGA card.

See the difference? XFX respectable? Maybe. XFX reliable compared to the other videocard manufacturers? Hell no.

I have a PNY 6600gt PNY and it's nice. But for some reason after I installed it I can't view any videos or anything, or else when it's doing the connnecting and opening part it totally lags up!

My xfx 7800gt is great. Overclocks wonderfully, hasn't given me any problems, is cosmetically nice, and the stock cooler works better than a Zalman700cu VGA cooler.

Then you're one of the 95% without problems. I'll take my 99.9% chances over my 95% chances though. Or look at it like this; the XFX is 50 times more likely to fail than the eVGA. That put it in perspective, and why people recommend one brand over another?
