    Bios Ticking

    Hey guys,

I just got my new case today and put everything together. I am 99% positive I got everything connected correctly, and didn't damage anything in the process.

Well, when I start it the computer arrives at the bios screen (MSI K8N Neo4) and stays there. After the initial Bios beep my bios speaker starts ticking, and I can't get into the BIOS menu or see a post menu... I checked to make sure it wasn't a wire tapping against a fan, but its definitely coming from the bios speaker. Please tell me this isn't another bum motherboard? The only change to the hardware has been the move to a new case with more fans. Everything worked fine before I switched cases.

I tried many different hardware configs and it still wont boot, and will only give the machine-gun-like clicking sound. Is there a Universal diagnosis for this sound? Please Help!

Unhook everything all the peripherals from your motherboard except your vid card and 1 stick of memory. See if you can get into your bios then.

I suppose I'll try that. I just don't understand what could be causing the clicking sound from the mobo speaker

That clicking is actually a way of letting you know the problem. Each mobo has it's own code of clicks. If you go to your mobo's manafactures website and look under support, you'll find out what the clicks mean. They aren't there to annoy you.
One other thing to try, MSI mobos come with a D-link bracket with lights. Plug it into the mobo and see where the startup stops. The light configuration will tell you in what step the computer hangs.

You're thinking of a bios Beep. This almost sounds like a Hard Drive failure but the clicking is coming from the speaker. MSI only has beep codes for the Bios. I am beginning to think its the PS/2 adapter that might faulty, causing a repeated input problem. The USB adapter plugged into the mobo doesn't show any of the 4 indicator lights.:hmm:

I reset the CMOS when my MSI board hung at the BIOS screen...and it worked.

You may want to try MSI's tech forums (very helpful):

So you plugged in the D-link Bracket with the 4 lights on it and none of them light up when you turn on the computer? If so, either your mobo isn't getting any power or your CPU is completely fried. Are you sure you plugged in both power cables to the mobo? Ones a 4 pin and the other is a 20pin. Also, are you sure you hooked up the power/reset switch wires right?
