A 7800GT is $300 though, and 1GB of RAM is like $80.

Yeah I need some help also. I am thinking of getting a new Vid card, right now I have a Intel P4 2.8, 1.5 gig ddr400, geforece 6200 oc 256mb. Which card would be better for me? I know the 7800 is on everyone's list but i need one that is semi affordable. I was thinking about either the nvidia geforce 6600 or the geforce 6800, but i am not sure which one to get. There are too many cards out there!

Just a note, think your gonna need a 400w spower supply for that card...

My GTX requires 400w... So the GT shouldnt be far off... Not that they are particualarly expensive, just dont want you to be disappointed xmas day... deffo the card, its dearer than the ram :P

No mate get the 7800... youll only want one at some point anyway... so its more expensive yes... you could spend like $140 less and get a closeish card, but its never quite there, then when you want to get there, its gonna cost you the full amount.

A 7800GT on 300W won't work. I would go for the first bit then. Also better take an A-Brand Quality PSU of just 450W than a cheap Q-Tec (or similiar) PSU of 500W or more. Since the amount of Watt hardly mathers when you got a cheap PSU. Just a like note so you don't get into trouble with your PSU.

I got a rosewill PSU. Not a bad little box. 34A on the +12V rail(s) and 450W. Biggest thing in my experience is the amperage on the 12V. Since the 7800GT supposedly uses less power than a 6800GT, which I was using a 350W 18A power supply on, the factor seems to be Amperage.

But realistically if you get a 7800GT you still will have to turn the graphics down. This game will not operate with 1 GB of ram on highest graphics without stuttering and lagging. I would honestly suggest getting a better PSU, at least one more 512 stick of ram, and if you have enough money left over just get a 6800GT. I barely noticed any difference between my 6800GT @ Ultra speeds and my 7800GT. Of course I changed cards between the 1.2 patch time so supposedly everyone's systems are less effective.

Don't underestime the performance increase a quality PSU will bring. If you can, get a PSU and the gfx card. Worry about the RAM later, there's no rule stating you have to run everything on full detail.

Ram will help all computer applications, graphics card will only be used in high end games. Even on low graphics settings the 1GB stick of ram was still stuttering. 2GB was the best performance increase I had for BF2.

nVidia 7800GT PCI-e x16 256MB and try to find a deal on another 512 mb of memory... the 1.5 gb will pay off when playing bf2...
