The psu sucks, and really a surprising pick, but who's to say he doesn't need a terabyte of hard drive and 4gigs of ram? I certinally plan to get more ram, and since I have 1gig sticks and have to match it, my only option is another 2. While it may not be useful by todays standards, it will by next year or so. Or if nothing else, at least you won't have to turn stuff off when playing BF2. I turn off my Windowblinds, Stardock and other stuff. For me, since I plan to be recording television and converting videofiles while playing games, 4gig sounds about right.

#1 - Nothing uses 4GB of ram

#2 - I'd rather have a 4000+ or FX series then a 4800x2, better for gaming

#3 - Over spending left and right 2 GTX512's? Come on.

#4 - Having an "uber" system doesn't get you anywhere in life

#5 - Girls aren't impressed with how big your hard drive is, no matter what you hear

#6 - For $5000, you can get a much nicer more complete system (monitor, etc) if you know what to spend on and what you can be conseritive on.

4Gb of ram isn's nect year or the year after or even several years after needed.

today, we speak 1Gb is more then enough for every application, and even running several applications.

Only with some games and BF2 the most, 2Gb realy shows of , this is almost the only game needing so much ram .

4Gb is pure overkill and will even bottleneck your system.

more then a terrabyte of HD space, this is just funny. nowbody needs this, and if they do put this amount of space full, it must be a whole bunch of movies slowing down those HD's extremely, and when one crashes you loose 500Gb of data.

Not your RAM will bottleneck you but your CPU, even the best dual core at thim moment will get in problems when recording TV while playing, unless you start playing with low settings wich is stupid when you have a 5000$ rig. and this rig doesn't even support HDTV (even bigger lol)

Maybe when you have a budget of 5000$ , it would be smarter to build a gaming rig of about 3500$ and next to it a mediacenter of about 1500 $ , the gaming rig can never be interupted because some tasks of the media applications and other way around.

Peter Jackson's "King Kong" has 2gb listed as it's sytem requirements for the Hi-Res version of the game (apparently there are two completely separate versions). BF2 can reach about 1.5 and even peak above that. Do you really think that 3gb won't be "the next 2gb"? I suppose for my system I could use 512 sticks with my 1024, but I'm still pretty new to computers and not sure if you can do that. But I'd kinda feel dumb spending $150 on 512 OCZ Platinum 2-3-2-5 ram (to match what I have exactly) when double that is only another $100.

On my current mobo, yes, 4gb would become my bottleneck because all my ram would get turned down to 2700 (333mhz). Like I said, I'm new to computers, but aren't there mobo's that will run all 4 at full speed? If so, why would it be the bottleneck?

I appreciate the advice though and definately plan to look more into it before I decide. Maybe y'all are right and instead of being a Hummer, his PC is more like a minivan with gold bumpers, diamond headlights and opal windows =P

PS. I sure hope that I can do that kinda stuff with a dual core because that's what I want it for...

I really disagree with some of these claims that you don't need more than a terabyte of space. I for one do a lot of video editing and photography and have had a single video with a size of 19.5 GB before compression. Some professional photographers go out and shoot a gigabytes worth of material in one day. Anyhow i think its not stupid at all, my pc can have 1.2 terabytes as well. But for now i decided to stick with 2x 160 GB. Also the 4GB is really really awesome. You could always use more RAM when dealing with media, and there will be a year when that is considered the norm. Although i do think that the 2x 7800 gtx 512 was not the wisest decision. For the price and the amount of time that it will last i do not believe that was necessarily the thing that will last in the long run. But really, does anything? However according to the "experts" the 7800 wont be good for that long, i always check with anandtech.com for the latest news in computers. Really nice computer, really nice.

When I go sli I don't plan on buying a second card until the first one is "out of date" and it's time to upgrade. I thought that was the whole point? Anything before that is just bragging rights (and thus I agree that this computer is technically overkill)

I am also a photographer, and more then one terrabyte om HD space is the absolute most stupid thing to get as a photographer.

This will only encourage not taking enoug backups, my point is more then one terrabyte in HD space results in more then one terrabyte of DATA that can be lost due crashes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

about the 4GB of ram, the memory controlers just can't handle such big amounts of ram very good, because it's stupid and never used!!!

this is only for server use.
