It's not that bad to only have a 20 pin PSU. U should just go forward, and BTW, what is the amp rating on the +12v rail, and what vid card and CPU do u have in ur comp?

What's the rest of the parts in the system? Also, how much you willing to spend on a 24-pin PSU? PSU's arent somethign you want to be cheap at all - think of it as the gas going into your "performance" car.

amd 3200 venice 7800 gt, i dont no how many amps, i ran into another crisis. k there were like 19938339 wires coming out of where the power button is, there all plugs.anyways most of them are 1 lil tiny pin exceptors or 2 tiny pin exceptors.

Those sound like the case connections. They vary from case to case, but all you need is: the power switch (Power sw) and power reset, and if you want, HDD LED and power LED. To hook them up, refer to the motherboard manual to connect them. It isn't really that hard.

As for a PSU, you can use your current, but its not recommended. If price is an issue, Antec Trupower 430's/480's (430/480 watts respective) should do the trick if you can find it for a good price locally...I can give you another suggestion if you live near a fry's...

please can anyone help me, i looked at the motherboard map on manual, and no plugh/swicth says power sw or reset sw PLZ, can u use the newegg picture to show me

if your motherboard has a 24 pin , you need to use a 24 pin!!!!

But you can buy convertors for this

this will cost you about 5-6$ , big deal.

about the connectors for your powerswitch and stuff.
Normaly on the cable connectors themself it's written wich one is what.
Look into manual motherboard, where to put what.
Rembber this , the coloured cables are mostly like 99.9% the negative ones.

k say i got the adapter.
anyways it doesnt say in my motherboard, and i really cant find the motherboard plug in for those wires.

and what color are u talking about. the power sw and reset sw are only 2 pins wide

k i found where to plug the case wires, i havnt got the adapter, but nothing still powers up.

say i put the 20 prong wire into the motherboards 24 prong.

would it not work, cus nothing happens at all

OK, lets take this step by step.

You put the 20 pin side of the adapter into your 20 pin side comming from the PSU .

Other side of that adapter is the 24 pin, this is the one you put on the motherboard, you can't place this one wrong.

Then on your PSU you have probably an extra 4 pin plug, this has two yellow and two black wires on it, this one you put in the 4 pin plug on your mobo, in your case this is about 5cm above your 24 pin.

About the case wires (power switch, speaker, reset, IDE led, power led) .
those come from your case, they have a + side and a - side .
The power switch, reset button and speaker, you may put those in both directions, they will keep working.
The IDE and POWER led, thoise must be put in the correct way, meaning the + side on the + side and the - side on the - side .
Trick : the + you can recognize this one because it has a coulored wire to it, the - side will be black or sometimes white. (+ side is red, yelow, blue, ...) .

NOW, READ THE NEXT CAREFULLY ABOUT THE CONNECTIONS!!! OF THOSE CASE WIRES!!!

Look at your mobo , the mobo must point up (cpu above)

In the right corner below, there you have the pins where you have to put the case wires, these are 17 pins .

these pins stand in tho rows above each other, 8 pins under, 9 pins above.

We start on the lowest row of pins.
Take the connector of the powerswitch, this has two pins, don't care about + or - , put it on the lower line of pins, horizontaly, and it has to fit over the 6' and the 7' pin counting from the left side,count good and watch carefully, those are small pins and you make a mistake very quickly.

then take the power led connector, with this one the + and the - must be placed correctly .
place the + side, the coloured wire (red, blue, yelow, whatever, ...) directly to the left side of the power switch connector . the negative side must be placed on the 3' pin from the left (we are still on the lowest line of pins, and horizontaly) .

then we go to the upper line of pins.
take the reset connector (again, + and - don't matter here) , this one comes on the second and third pin counting from the right side, also horizontaly.

next to the reset button(left side) you put the speaker connector, also horizontaly, and on the upper line of pins offcourse.

then you have probably one connector over, this is called the IDE led or the HD led, this one must be put verticaly directly to the left side of the speaker and the power led, meaning on the second pin counting from the left, above and under.

Voila!! case is connected, power is connected, push power switch, PC will say BEEP . (or BEEP BEEP BEEP , .... if you have done something wrong, or when some hardware like RAM, VID CARD, CPU, ... fails) .

Do not forget to switch the PSU on !!!!

Further, this is the first time you build your own PC, ok good for you, this is the way to learn it.
But what are the rest of your specs you bought ? did you buy a SATA disc ? if so, I hope you do know you can't just plug the SATA in, and install windows on it ?? because windows will not see the SATA disc and therefore can't install itself on the HD .

You need to preinstall SATA drivers with a floppy in the beginning of the win install before you can install windows on a SATA

ow, in case yo9u still don't know over what pins I am talking about for those case connectors.

If you look at your mobo , you will see a battery, under that battery you have some kind of chip (this is your BIOS chip FYI) with next to it your connector for the floppy , and under there are the pins you need to connect with the case (talking about a mobo who stand up, with cpu up)

For some reason when i bought my case it came with 2 550w powersupplies and both of them had 120mm fans...who needs 1100w ??

ok i did that but tried it with just the reset and power sw.

its a sata2 but its also reversable to a sata as a hard drive, =]

also on a sata 2, besides the power supply, there are 2 plugs near each other. do u have to use both plugs to connect to ur mobo, cus only 1 of them can connect 2 my mobo. also i dont have a floppy drives, and the hard drive came with no disk :{

also before i did this, someone said i could put them where ever, i thought they ment anywhere that could take it so, i plugged the power sw and reset into a fan pin lol. would this of effed it all up?

this is a problem, maybe when you have a recent copy of windows, it will work, because newer copy's of XP do have sata drivers on board.

older copy's of windows don't have SATA on board, end you need to install the sata drivers before you install windows and you need to do this with a floppy .

about the power switch and stuff, you are just putting the, wrong man, I am chure of it. look in the manual of your mobo , somewhere in the manual you wll see front-panel connections, it will be circles around where it is on the mobo (right down corner) and how to put the connectors to it.

my friend said the pcu or motherboard could be defective, if so? which would i return, i cant tell which is defective
