AMD 4 digit

i wanted to compare some CPU's and i was wanting to know what the 4 digits mean? does it mean the equivalent P4 in Mhz meaning a AMD 3200+ is the same as a 3.2 Ghz P4

no its not. a 3200+ runs at 2.0 ghz, but acts during games and most of the time equivalent to 3.2 or 3.4. depending on what programs your running.

indeed it runs slower, but the 3200+ is to compare with an 3.2Ghz intel , it will have the same speed more or less in applications .

you say but it runs slower, well , an AMD can do more calculations for each cycle, meaning at lower speeds it has the same calculation power

In BF2 a 3200+ = 3.8GHz.

It varies game from game.

look, it really all depends. I have had a laptop with a 3ghz pentium 4, a desktop with a 2.5ghz pentium, and a desktop with a 2.0ghz amd athlon 3200+.
for gaming, look no further, the amd athlon 3200+ rocks the other ones completly. But for opening programs and things like that, the pentium won. When i open firefox, my AMD's CPU usage goes to around 70%, but when I play bf2 I get way better framrates. And the more money you pay, the better overall performance your gonna get. A 3.7ghz pentium 4 is better in all jobs than a 3200+. But if you get a 3700+, it will destroy almost all competition.

that CPU chart gives you CPU performance on almost all current processer for a bunch of different programs. it helped me in deciding which processer to buy.

and as for flanker and his 3.8 remark, i see you overclocked your 3200+ to 2.7ghz, holy crap, no wonder it performs in bf2 at 3.8, you must need like a 300$ heatsink for that puppy!

The performance of the 3200+ will be simular to that of the 3.2Ghz even though the physical clock speeds are not the same.

First of all, DivX is not a gaming benchmark. Most people don't care about how fast DivX encodes. That said, Pentium-4s are geneally better at video encoding.

As for my 2.7Ghz, a 3200+ is like a 3.8GHz Pentium 4 in Battlefield 2 and AT STOCK SPEEDS. At 2.7GHz, the 3200+ is more like 4.96GHz.

Only in regular tasks. Athlon 64s excel significantly in gaming, and Pentium-4s generally do better in video encoding. Otherwise, they are roughly the same. Now you tell me what matters more, gaming or video encoding?

Well it depends on whether you are a gamer or encoder really... I myself am a gamer hence the AMD in my sig.
