The PE edition is higher clocked, it will give you a performance gain, but I can't say how much exactly in BF2 , in overal it will be about 10-15%

the pe version also gets alot hotter with stock cooling

i would go for the xt and maybe overclock it at little

Where the hell are you going where the difference between the XT and the XT PE is $250?!? The price difference should be (and is) close to $50. The main difference is an onboard thermometer for optimum overclocking safety. I can't say whether that specifically is worth $50, but then there's other factors as well like gpu/mem frequencies even between different brands of PE. Any site that's selling both cards with a $250 difference between them is a scam site, and if you're comparing different sites, you need to toss the higher priced ones out as scam sites as well. An X850XT should go between $250-350 depending on the clocks, and an X850XT PE should be between $350-450. The variences are due to name brands and clocks, so technically a low clocked XT compared to a higher clocked PE can have a $200 difference but theres a lot more to the difference than just the "PE" part.

On Newegg.com right now, for $299, you can get either an XT or an XT PE, both refurbished, with the PE being 100mhz more on the mem and 20mhz on the core, but made by different companies (Powercolor and VisionTek respectively).

Mine cost $420 if you're curious and is 540/1180 stock (same as that $299 VisionTek).

Wow you guys are missing out, just downlaod ATI tool and overclock it past PE speeds.. it should be capable of that.

do remember an PE edition is actualy a card with a chip on it who has past more severe tests then the XT versions , meaning a PE edition is higher to OC then an XT.

You can shure put an XT to the clockspeeds or further then a stock PE, but when you start OC ing both the PE will go further

It is around 250$ different. No, it's not a scamsite. It's a site where you can see all the components from the differents stores in Denmark.

The XT PE is maybe worth $50 more imo. It's only gonna be a difference of maybe 10 FPS if that.

Not 10 FPS. Maximum 5 FPS. You can see that on the benchmark. The X-Bit Benchmarks you can trust.

The last two words make a world of difference. Lets not split hairs since the bottom line is that it's not worth it. Every benchmark site is different which is why I allowed for a greater margin of error.

Well if you trust the source of the information then maybe you're just comparing slightly different cards, like I said. There are dozens of companies, that I know of, that make ATI based cards : ATI (most expensive), Sapphire, Powercolor, VisionTek, Connect3D, Asus, & HIS to name the most popular (using Newegg as source). For the most part, stats aside, they're all built around the same exact hardware.

Honestly though, the cheapest on Newegg (sorry guys, I don't work for them or anything, but explaining why I keep using them as a reference would only sound like I DO!) is $289, which is pretty damn decent. It's the same exact card that I have, just mine has an adjustment to work on AGP (the AGP version is actually built on a pci-e board) and my roomate has the pci-e version. Technically this card is already way out of date which is proved by the price drop from just a couple of months ago. They don't even carry AGP anymore really.

But if you're going to get an XT, might I suggest opting for one that is Crossfire compatible? Even if you don't have a Crossfire mobo, it's good futureproofing, and it's actually cheaper than a PE.

Also, I hear good things about Pricewatch.com for finding the cheapest price. I had 50/50 luck with it the one time I used it. The site recommended turned out to be kind of shady but because they messed up I got a free (used) monitor out of the deal.

*sigh* everytime I read or post in one of these forums that mention my card I get a little depressed. I got it just as they were going out of style, but technically was one of the best cards avaliable. I'm going nVidia with my next rig though... soon as I get a job.

There's no way I'm going Crossfire in the future. The manufactor is HIS and it's the best of all the X850XT cards you can get because of the fan.

End of the discussion, this is my choice.
