Ram Question! If You Know How To Check Ram Speed Please Help!

could somebody please tell me how to check/ change ram speed?

i bought some pc2700 ram, because i thought my originaly ram was pc2700 (its either that or pc3200), but it says "RAM frequency 400 mhz" in the start up thing (you know, same screen that it says "1024 ram ok".

i have a suspicion that my pc2700 ram didnt set the other ram down to 333 as it should have, and that im running them all at 400 mhz, causing problems.

the biggest evidence is that my extra 512 mb of DDR seemed to have little increase in performance, and i now get black flashes and textures disappearing with huge lag online!

im convinced this is my ram trying to run too fast, but ive checked the BIOS and dont know where to find RAM speed or how to change it if its too high!

please help me out here!

To check you current RAM speed download a program called CPU-Z.

um cant i do it from my bios? i would prefer not to download viruses spyware or trojans ya know.

also i might need to change it as well.

also i want to try rolling back my nvidia drivers, but i cant find it in the menu!

i think those new 81.95 drivers started the problem as well.

can you tell me how to roll those back?

Each BIOS is diffrent so it depends on your MOBO, my way is eaiser to see your ram speed.

To roll back drivers go to device manager, right click your video adapter and go to properties, driver tab, roll back driver button.

CPU-Z is not spyware/adware/trojans/virii or anything else. It's a simple program that tells you everything you need to know. If you aren't going to listen to what people say, why even bother posting?

i was wondering if it contained it.

could i get some program that lots of people agree on is good? and does CPU-Z allow me to change speed (say if all of my RAM is going 400 mhz and i know half of it is PC2700 and should only be going 333?)

No you can't change the speed in anything other than the BIOS.

ok, i ran CPUZ.

it records my motherboard as an ASUS P4P8X.

ive had it for 2 years and never updated the motherboard driver, should i?

also, it records my ram as 200.5 mhz, and says that it is all PC3200 (200 mhz), but the 512 ram piece i bought was definitely pc2700!

and i bought the main computer 2 years ago so im surprised the 2 original 256 pieces count as pc3200 as well!

how do i change my ram speed down? i wouldnt normally fiddle with it, but im getting big problems i think might be ram related.

also it says the channel number is single, and how do i change it in the BIOS?

the closest i can get to ram options is DRAM, and it has no feasible options?

also, is the largest AGP aperture that AGP 8X can handle 64 mb?

Like I said each BIOS is diffrent, I could tell you how to do it on my MOBO but that wouldn't really do you any good now would it. Just go in there and look around, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

but it is! i went in, all there are is things for power, advanced, and the like.

i went into advanced and it had things like agp aperture size and stuff on DRAM, but nothing i saw said like "CHANGE RAM SPEED HERE!"

what exactly would happen if my ram was trying to go too fast?

its readiing it all as 3200, but im sure the 512 was 2700. the problems im getting now on BF2, especially when i try to run it on medium textures which i have before i got the new ram without problem, are black flashes and lag followed by half the textures going transparent.

looks pretty messed up online heh.
