What the heck is wrong with this game?

    Hey guys,

This is up in the air as far as if it belongs in Hardware or Software. I posted a low FPS problem a couple weeks ago and low and behold I fixed it with a fresh windows install to clean all the driver mess out.

Since then its been a nightmare, its slowly degraded from 60-90fps to 18fps in a heavy battle with everything on high and 64 players. Did the 1.20 patch ruin anyone else's FPS? I have this feeling that the problem is more a software related problem as no other games have degraded in FPS... I have done all the tweaking and cache clearing. I just don't get it. I use this PC for nothing but checking email and playing games.

I just don't understand how a program can degrade like this. No other programs I have installed on my PC have lost any FPS or performance, just BF2.

Have you installed MOBO drivers? Nforce 4 drivers? Graphic Drivers?

If you have a look around, not only on this forum, but all across the BF2-community, there are loads of users suffering from the same problems as you do.

Sadly, there's no way to fix it (I'm assuming you've tried updating/rolliong back drivers, BIOS etc).

Look at my system in my sig, I used to be able to run in 1280x960@100Hz with everything on Ultra High w/ AAxS8 and AFx8 - with about 60-70 FPS stable.
After patch 1.12 I have to run in 1024x768, everything on Medium w/ AAx4 and AFx4 - and I get about 40-60 FPS. It still dips into the low 30's at times!

All we can do is to hope DICE/EA fixes the performance problems in the next patch..

The game seems to have gone from good frame rates to low frame rates while changing nothing with the game or hardware. I defrag regularly, clean the registry on an almost daily basis, and check for spyware daily.

PS: Don't I only need to install the NF5 drivers to have my mobo up to date? Or are there drivers that might be specific to MSI?

Whether you have SF or not, when you play BF2 your game will "load" the textures/sounds/weapon effects (like flashbangs) in addition to everything from the older versions. I would not doubt the presence of this many extra weapons and their related textures/sound/visual effects is placing some strain on the game. However whilst I could understand some performance degradation because of this, it does not explain why people with 2Gb ram and super CPUs are suffering.

                Basically they broke the game.

Its honestly nice to know that its not my system and just the game... which can theoretically be fixed with a good patch. I'm not crossing my fingers on that though.
