    7800GTX 512 goes for 999

check it out guys, this morning they were in stock ,and now they are gone, and the price was 1000, at this rate we can expect VGA prices to just keep on rising, since people will buy them no matter what the price is

    To hell with that price!

Actually, nVidia is putting the 7800 GTX 512's on out of production pretty soon, since they are introducing a refresh Q1/Q2 2006. 90mm "G71" (rumored to be 7800 GTX mkII) one thing i've kept hearing alot on and the possiblity of a 32 pipelines...

I think u mean 90nm, not 90 mm, am i right? ANyways, havn't heard it, but i havn't been looking at nvidia news recently. Anyways, i guess it is kinda logical to discontinue the 512mb 7800GTX, nvidia is getting more money from the 7800GT than GTXs, cause 7800GT can play all current games at max settings, and it is way cheaper.

Damn this graphics card industry, lol j/k, is great all the new technology, but at those prices, i guess we will be playing future games on 800X600 all LOW settings lol

Is this new card supposed to be better overall than the 120nm 7800gtx 512mb? If it is the prices will just rocket as they have done the the 512.

                Re: 7800GTX 512 goes for 999

I built my first PC when i was 11, and since then i have built 14 computers on my own, and yet i have never bought a video card, or a CPU, or anything else within the first 3 months of their release. It's illogical, and useless. First of all, the technology that those cards have will not be used by all of the games at the time for at least 3 months (usually this takes at least 6 months). So if GTX were released in March 2006, you wouldn't get %10 of what you should get from it when you play BF2. So as long as you are not in film industry, or you are not a 3D animator/modeler which means the card's performance is not solely depended on the software you are using, there is no reason to buy these new cards when they are released. That's how these companies make more money than they should.

When was 7800 GT released? 9 months ago? or 6 months? I didn't buy it, i could have, but i didn't. I kept using my X600XT and it was perfectly fine. Then i waited for prices do go from $600 to $500 first, then from $500 to $400 and from $400 low $300s, and i bought it 1 month ago. What did i loose? Nothing. with the $300 i saved, i bought BF2+SF, i upgraded my RAM from 512 MB DDR2 to 2 GB DDR2 and i bought a cooler for my CPU. So which one is more practical and benefical?

Think twice, don't waste money. Trust me, it's gonna take at least 6 months for game/software companies to optimize their programs to those new technologies in the GPU anyways, so the only difference you will see is the high resolution and a little increase in refresh rate (if your monitor supports it) other than that, the you won't feel a bit of difference in AA, AF, shadows, and etc.

Well not really on sale, since that's been the price all around, and is not in stock, it was the same price in ZZF, but also out of stock, once it came back in stock the price jump, i found if for like 630 but the shipping was like 60, wich still cheaper, but come from Canada, im not too sure about that, also found it on the U.S. for 700 here

Yes indeed.:) The extra hundreds of dollars aren't worth the extra few fps imo yadayada...

I want one, but no way in HELL i would pay that much for them, not even the 750 that you see around. For that money i could get and FX plus some goodies.

i cant really see this card ever being in stock in numbers

it is all an NVIDIA publicity stunt to show that they have the fastest card it was never really meant to be sold in any numbers just as a marketing show and a ploy to crush the x1800xt

just like a formula 1 car is a symbol of a car companys engineering

i could be wrong but i doubt it

                              That's why I bought 2 256MBs instead for cheaper than 1 512MB.
