    Highend RAM, lowend MoBo

Im looking to get 2GB of RAM for my PC. My current MoBo is a WinFast K7NCR18G. Its fairly old, about 2 years and Im looking to get Corsair TWINX2048-3200PT (2x1GB) 2GB Platinum Dual Channel Pair RAM, but im not completely certain myself that it will work 100%, so i just wanted to check with you guys.

My Mobo does support 3200 (DDR400) RAM. This ram is Dual Channel, my MoBo is described as having '128 bit DualDDR Memory Architecture with support up to 3GB DDR 400 memory'. Is this the same thing?

Also, the RAM descrpiton says DDR400 (200 MHz at (3-4-4-8). So will it run @ 200MHz or 400Mhz, or is that '(200 MHz at (3-4-4-8)' something completely different? (I suck @ hardware)

I just want to make sure im getting the right stuff so im not waisting my hard earned cash.

    Thanks

you will have to try it. no other way to put it.

i have found that even with hardware on a manufacturer's "tested" or "approved" list, it can still have issues.

That is not high end ram.

High end ram is something like DDR 400 2-2-2-5. Dont let the name fool you.

Get some value ram instead, it will have the same timings. I reccomend GEIL VALUE 2x1GB from www.overclockers.co.uk.

remember DDR= Double Data Rate so its X2.

      200mhzX2=DRR 400 :).

      Thanks.

Thanks man, I got the RAM you suggested, cant wait to try it out.

One last question. My current specs are:

        AMD Athlon XP 2400+
        RADEON 9800 PRO
        80GB IDE (5400rpm) Harddrive
        WinFast K7NCR18G

My current psu is only 250 watt. Would it be unwise to put the RAM in before I upgrade the PSU? (I have one ordered, but its not going to arive until after christmas). I ask because my brother has the exact same build (1GB RAM tho, not 2), and he has had problems with his PSU and was advised to replace it with a 450watt.

          What PSU is it?

I would not reccomend it, the PSU could blow and take other parts with it.

Why will it come after christmas :).
