Dell XPS 200 advice
Alright so my friend is gonna get a new computer, and he doesn't know a whole lot about computers. He found a deal at Dell on a XPS 200 http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...=19&l=en&s=dhs (hes gonna get the "Proformance" pack or the one that costs 1000 bucks. He is gonna upgrade the ram to 1 or 2 gigs, so the ram isn't a problem, and is gonna buy either a 6800GT or a 7800 GT. However the processor is a Penitum D 820. He really likes it because it comes with a 19in lcd for free, but i was worried about the processor. I looked at sum benchmarks that showed it against a whole bunch of amd and intel processors, and the 820 didn't do real good onthe games (hes gonna mostly be playing bf2 and CSS for now). However it kicks @^$ at multitreaded tasks, which will probably be more common in the future. So my question is; is the cpu gonna constrain him while gaming or in the future? Plz also post any other thoughts about the comp, and what he should upgrade.

well amd dual core processors actually beat intel dual core processors in multitasking and in every other aspect of PC performance. so in that case he is a bit of trouble. he culd build an HP computer with a amd dual core but i dont think they have any monitor deals. -

wow thats a big rip off lol. a 19 inch lcd is like 230 on newegg. so say u got.
800 to get the comp as the monitor is already taken care off.

If he's gonna upgrade all that stuff on top of the $999 base price then it's gonna cost alot more than that. With the upgrades mentioned you are looking at $1500 minimum.
You will not be able to run a 6800/7800 off of the Dell PSU supplied in that system.Comment

ya we were going to build him one, but the thing is its better for him to get a prebuild because hes going to ask for it for xmas, so his mom can but it if its pre build like that (he also kinda has his heart set on it for sum reason sooo....w/e i'm telling him he might have problems, but its really his choice). thnx also for the PSU advice, i will bring that up with him.Comment

Nothing is wrong with pre-built PC's, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Do home built computers save you money and usually perform better than pre-built ones? Yeah, but that doesn't mean all pre-built PC's are complete and utter ****.
Search around for some other sites online that build custom computers,
ibuypower.com and adamant.com seem good to me.Comment
