    Re: Nvidia GeForce 6800

or that, Im just not AS familiar with Ati and the equivelants, but yes. the probability of finding a cheaper, better ATi is good I would look into that and Ill try to help.
the thing is (i know this is going to sound dumb and biased, though its not) I seem to notice nvidia cards always work as they say and as others say, good performance for price and everything
Ati cards dont seem to follow the same pattern, they seem to be spazztic... but thats not tested... Im just saying what I notice. so dont flame me.

note: if you do go with a 6800,and decide to go with the GT, go with the GS instead, the GT runs soooo hot compared.

WTH?! I have unlocked my pipeline(16,6), oc'ed a bit (400, 1.10ghz stock), pentium 4 2.6ghz, 1gb RDRAM and I get crappy fps on everything low except geometry, texture(med). and effects(med.). I am using DhZeropoint 84.43 drivers. Any help????

      Edit: I have a 6800gs on agp 4x

Edit2: Why can I play Splinter Cell: Chaos Theroy with everything maxxed out(including SM 3.0 soft shadows, etc) and still get 70+ fps?

bf2 just hates some people...no serisouly. it could also be your ram, and processes in the background. there are many tiny things about certain computers that determine performance, as for Splinter cell I dunno, how much video ram do you have?

It's 256mb version. BTW I put everything to medium(no AA or Dynamic Lighting) and DAM! looks real nice and I get about the same fps(5 fps loss but oh well).

gt? Uhh okay or you can just get the GS, unlock the 4 extra pipes with Riva Tuner which makes it everything a GT is and save around $100 give or take. Gee, difficult equation? I think not.

To the original poster, the 6800GS by PNY and EVGA are badass cards. I have experience with both and as long as u have a good CPU, PSU, and sufficient RAM you'll kick BF2's ass.

FireZip, FYI, the 84.43 drivers suck for the 6800. I recommend u try any of the following, 83.90, 84.37, 91.28's. Those are the 3 most recent drivers I've messed with in trying to get decent FPs and they all did well. The 83.90's were my favs but messed up my movie in media player. I'm using the 91.28's right now with everything on medium and 2xAA and getting smooth play. I'd have my settings higher but I can't OC because I have an OEM PSU right now.

Can you even get the GS with AGP? I thought it was PCI-E only...when I bought it for my PCI-E mobo, it was the only was at that time...something new I suppose?

The PCI-E version does not have extra pipe-lines to open up as far as I know.

I have an eVGA 6800gs NV40. They are REALLY rare to find nowadays. I got mine off tigerdirect(thats because I got lucky). The next day they sold out.

I have an almost identical system, except I'm using 2 gb of ram. Runs everything on high smooth as buttah, except on high ping servers which I avoid like the plague.

you cant unlock the PCIe version, but most the AGP can be. same with the vanilla 6800

I had an unlocked & overclocked 6800 AGP on my previous system, and when i built my new one, I went with the PCI-E 6800GS...I'm sorry fellas, but in my case, there is no comparison...the PCI-E GS works much better.
