Im planing on getting a 3700+ yea. Someone showed me this so I was just wondering.

I dont know anything about opterons at all, Im a fairly noob person in AMDs.
Opterons seem like one of those things only the professionals get.

Not a good deal, lol. AMD Athlon 64 4000+ - $344 or so.

The only thing the fx-55 going for it is the unlocked multiplyer, but even then it's still not that great a deal. Opterons are not just for proffesionals, they are for anyone who appreciates a great value.

Yeah, opterons are realy good, seriously, if you get a CABYE setting on say a Opteron 146, you can overclock all the way to about 3.2ghz on stock HSF. THat's good, even if you get a bad stepping like CABGE, you still can OC to 2.8ghz with stock HSF, that's the speed of a FX-57. Anyways, opterons are just great processors, they overclock great, and they work great.

Opertons are discontinued so if you can find it, grab it.

You shouldn't phrase it like that. They may be able to overclock that high, there is no saying the absolutly will. It depends on too many other things to say it will overclock that high.

THat's why i said the thing about steppings. If you get a good stepping (CABYE or CABNE) you can overclock a good amount, if you get a bad stepping (CABGE) you can't overclock as much. BUt when you buy opterons, it'll be random, and chances are, you'll get a CABGE, as CABNEs are kinda rare right now, and CABYEs are almost impossible to get if not from ebay.

Even if you get a good stepping there is still no gaurentee. I've seen many good steppings get totally ****ty overclocks on otherwise good systems.

No one knows if they are going to be discontinued or not, so please don't spread incorrect information. Even then, only the 1xx series will be affected, not the total line.

Speaking of repeating information, Eddy, you're just repeating what I and other people have been saying about the steppings. Please stop, its VERY annoying.

As for the Opterons being discontinued, thats pretty much final. There was talk of that as early as a month ago, but now it IS final. eTailers may still sell them for a while, however their production has halted as of December.

Yeah, i know, ur the one who told me about steppings in the first place, so if u want me to stop i will. Anyways, yeah, i'm pretty sure the opterons are being discontinued. Does anybody know why? I'm guessin because it was such a good overclocker and it was a great deal.

Don't listen to these guys cuz thats a damn good price. That is if it's legit, but I'm weary of buying expensive hardware on ebay. I don't do it.
