It's hard to compare clock frequencies between Intel and AMD because AMD doesn't have to be clocked as high as Intel since AMD is much more proficient. And with any new game, any AMD 64 cpu will run it so don't worry about the requirements.

Yeah, I really don't notice too much of a peformance drop, if any at all, the few times I have to unclock my processor. I can't force myself to unclock it for good though because it's stable and... and... well it's running at 2.4! 2.5 is pretty stable on the processor but forces me to loosen up my memory timings, otherwise I get booted back to my desktop too often.

AAH! Too many replies to look through.

The Opterons are overclocking worse and worse from the looks of it. That was to be expected from the start since thats what happened with the Winchesters AND the Venices. You could still go with that, and still get a decent enough overclocker. Either choice is a good one.

Go with Dual Core though. It will be extremely helpful in the future. A single core processor will be grossly outmatched in a Dual Core game. Everyone is moving towards Dual Core. Intel's next line of processors, sporting lower clockspeeds, shorter pipelines, and performance better than Athlon 64s' are going to be Dual Core and Quad Core. The Quad Core is for servers though. But there are NO single-core processors planned for the future by ANY of the processor manufacturers.

Oops, haha. Yea forgot about those. Well its not a very big upgrade, DDR2, big whoop Atleast us 939'ers won't be TOO far behind with those.
