my venture from intel ati system to amd nvidia system i started off with intel 3.6, 2gb 400, ati x800 and sb audigy 2, then went for sli on the intel board :laugh: , with 2gb 667 and bought 1x 7800gtx, bf2 was certainly better on this machine but i knew it could be better. so inevetably went sli, performance was great all high and about 60/70fps, still not satisfied with my intel sli, (3dmark05: 7333, with one 7800gtx and 8400 with sli), i have since moved to my sig spec, plays bf2 all high 1280x1024, even ultra sound, and i get 100fps, but when 60fps is the best possible gameplay its a good job i like other games

I'm not saying get more RAM but upgrade to faster RAM instad of the "value" one I have now. I'm just going to get that CPU.

ok no more ram, but make sure that you have a real sound card like an sb audigy 2 zs or better. the audigy 2 value is ok and will save you some money if you can live with analog i/o.

2GB of DDR333 isn't too bad. DDR400 won't be too big of an improvement. And it doesn't matter if its value or not. Only difference between Value and others is overclockability. Value doesn't overclock (a lot), then theres the middle area thats good quality but crap overclocking (like XMS), and then theres the top RAM thats good Quality AND good overclockability. Don't bother buying the DDR400 XMS, go with DDR400 Corsair ValueSelect if you're getting RAM. Same performance, maybe tighter timings on the XMS, but that doesn't make ANY NOTICEABLE difference.

Then again, 3.2 from 2.8 isn't much of an improvement. While I agree that BF2 is a very CPU-dependant game, .4GHz for Intel isn't a lot. It would be the difference between a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and Athlon 64 3500+. You can easily overclock your 2.8GHz P4 to 3.2GHz with maybe buying a better Heatsink, cuz like was said, Prescotts run HOT.

I don't recommend either. Like someone else suggested before, but a better videocard. Your sig has been removed so I don't know what you have.

but it's a old 2.8 the FSB is not even 800MHz and the L2 Cache isn't even 1MB.

L2 cache won't make much of a difference and FSB would make a difference, but the whole thing isn't worth $220.

Besides, you're building an AMD build, just save up and add this money to your AMD build. Meanwhile, buy a better heatsink and overclock your processor. It should reach 3.4GHz with some decent cooling.

Yea, like I said; Just but a Zalman heatsink or something on it and overclock it. At 3.5GHz it'll be better than the 3.2GHz Prescott, FSB be damned. FSB will be 666Mhz at that point, incase you're wondering.
