New hardware question.

Ive finally decided after running a system since xmas '97 to upgrade to a modern one to play new games like BF2, I have seen a PC that I am 100% about buying, my question is can some players of the game please tell me what graphics settings I should be able to use on the system, and if anyone has the mentioned graphics card if they could go and post screenshots of what the game looks like and FPS with it.

(Comes as whole system, no changes optional)
Intel Pentium 4 519 Processor
3.0GHz, 533MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache
1024MB DDR RAM
160GB Hard Disk Drive
Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD-RW Drive
256MB GE Force 6200 Graphics
Windows XP Home Edition
17" TFT Flat Panel Monitor

I know about needing to add extra RAM and a newer graphics card to this system but I wont be able to afford to do so for about 4 months after I buy it so.

Ive never been able to play BF2 and have been reading up about it for about 20 days now and have 40 days left before I will hopefully be playing it... cant wait

Just one question, why intel? As for that comp, I see all low, at maybe 1024x768, but I doubt it.

The reason for intel isnt because im against AMD, but because I have a number of old games and with planning to run dual operating systems of XP and 98SE if I use an AMD processor some of my fave games are so old they are from a pre-AMD era and so dont work with anything but intel.

Remember a while back there were those patches for games to make them compatible with AMD processors, these games didnt get patches.


When it comes to the resolution settings I would most likely be playing at
800x600, on my current old system I play Wolf: Enemy Territory online at 640x480 (with a great framerate) so its not like i require high resolutions in games (desktop 1024).

I can quite happily play games like Hitman 3 and Age 2, but I think you see why I need to upgrade to even load BF2! lol.

It won't matter how old the games are. Compatability isn't an issue with games/CPUs. AMD is also pretty old, so I doubt they're pre-AMD either. :P Unless by old you mean Hugo 3 or something.

That setup looks like a Dell, which means you're going to end up spending twice what it's worth, and only getting half the results you want.

It's a Packard Bell IMEDIA 1508 (£599.99), by old I mean one of my fave games is Star Wars: Dark Forces (Dos), but I have found some windows games that I have that are supposed to have amd problems including Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, I know these are not mainstream games but its a good 5cd space sim.

I thought they were gone too. Our first computer was a PB, 12 years later it's still going strong, lol.
