ROM drive problem - please help

I'm sorry if this is a bit off-topic for this forum, but perhaps somebody can give me a steer.

I've just spent an hour trying to solve a problem I thought I had with BF2 - I just kept getting 'Please insert disc' when the DVD was already in the drive. I finally realised that the problem was that both my CDRW and DVDRW drives are not being recognised by Windows, and do not show in My Computer.

I've looked in Device Manager, and both of the drives are shown, but with the yellow warning triangles over them. Going to Properties tells me that the drivers cannot be found and that I should re-install them. Looking under the Drivers tab on Properties, however, suggests that the drivers are present.

Can anybody point me in the direction of the cause and a solution?

have u tried reinstalling the drivers????if u have...errrrmmm r they configured in bios properly??? try removing them from the device manager and restart and let windows search 4 them again on reboot????

Sorry - should have said - Yes, I did unistall them, and whilst windows did acquire them on reboot, I still get the same message about the drivers.

Not sure about the config in BIOS - how do I go about that?

Btw, I also checked the ribbon cable from the mobo to the drives. it looked OK, but I installed a new one that I already had. No joy.

to b honest i didnt even put drivers in 4 mine windows just configured automatically threw the bios, 2 get into the bios restart the pc and as it restarts keep hitiing the delete key, make sure u do it as soon as the monitor cums bak on or else u will miss it, u should have a menu called (probably) "standard cmos setup" or sumthing like that, press enter to go in it, and check that ur ide drives r there (primary or secondry)????if not try an auto detect, when ur finished press f10 to save and exit to boot up!!will write u again if i think ov sumfin else skyfish???

Both of the drives are there in the CMOS setup, but still not showing up in My Computer. Thanx anyway. Any other ideas?

I always disable my drives in bios for boot up, as this just slows the bootin up process .
in ur case, i think u should try this, and then go to the makers webby(of ur drives) dl the latest drivers, disable ur net so windows can't interfere, install, an bobs ur uncle
how ever, this worked for me, and is only a suggestion m8ty.

sorry mashed, was saying about the cmos setup not the boot up setup, yea ive done that just booting from me c drive, i think he needs to assign them letters in drive management maybe??????
