I was looking at some AMDs today with an L2 at 1mb, does that make alot of diff compared to a 3200+ with a L2 at 512k, i know is twice as more, which probably sets the price at twice the difference, almost

but the 3700+ SD is the cheapest one with a L2 at 1mb, only reason the others one are more is because there are OCd higher

you guys think it worth it? i would like an FX but thats already way to much

and my current pc ill probably pass it on to my mom, since somehow her gateway is still holding up after these years

I don't know the specs and benchies, but 1MB L2 cache doesn't make much of a difference, only a few percent. Also, it's been said that more L2 cache raises temps more so you can't OC as much. That just might be a wive's tale, because with my X2 4400+ with 2 L2 1MB cache, I'm running at 2.8Ghz. If you're confident you can OC your computer without messing it up, then buy a fairly cheap CPU and OC the heck out of it.

i currently have the big 120mm fan and heatsink by Zalman, on full load and full fan speed, temps wont go over 48c...stock clock is 2.0 and i went up to 2.5, and the 3700+ is at 2.2, OC it as much as the mobo will

I'd consider getting a 1xx series opteron, since even the cheapest has a meg of L2 cache, and they all oc really well.

The extra cache makes about .1GHz of difference. And there is a tiny price difference. If there was a 2.0Ghz Athlon 64 with 1MB L2 cache, it would probably cost about $10 or so more than the 3200+.

Opterons are being phased out. Get em while you can.

if you are doing it just for bf2, then i would just get a 3200venice (o/c if you want) since bf2 is much more gpu dependent than cpu. take the $$$ you saved on the cpu and get a better gpu.

thats what i do, but with my current mobo i can only OC so high, over it freezes and locks up
