Anyone have 5.1 headphones they are happy with?

I'm in the market. Don't really want to spend more than $100 though.

The speakers in headphones are too close together by definition to get 'true' 5.1 surround sound. Now it is a matter of taste as to when you will call the sound coming from your speakers 'true' surround sound. If you are not willing to spend more than $100 I am not too sure you will get headphones that will truely mimic 5.1 surround.

There are many options for 5.1 headphones out there, surely there is a decent setup for less than $100.

I'd go with the turtle beach ones myself, because it's an established brand that usually produces high quality audio equipment.

by definition you cannot have 5.1 Headphones, it's stero sound (only two speakers) the emulates surround sound. As much as it can or needs to be emulated. . .

Not all of them. Some have more than 2 speakers but they are still too close together. There is more to it than just the number of speakers.

I'm looking at those myself. Kind of an interesting headset. And from a few reviews i've read. They sound great.

As long as they sound as good or better than my AHS-502's (which are falling apart), i'll be happy.

From what I've read, the Medusa ones are the best for around $100

The Zalman ones are supposed to be pretty nice too, but you have to buy a mic seperately.

Also, take into account the following:

Cost of the headphones is X. X/5 (number of speakers) = cheap. Each of the drivers in the headphone is generally of less quality than two in a regular set of cans, so the quality of sound can't be much better.

In my opinion, these kind of headphones are mainly a gimmick, but I've read some people say it works for them to get a feeling of surround sound. So give it a try if you want, but keep in mind the quality of the sound might not be up to snuff.
