    curious...

if i play with the forced setting (8 AA and super sampling yata yata) i get around 40 fps but it stays pretty consistant. no bad studdering and such. if i take it off to the application controlled jump at 4 AA and such it lags like nuts sometimes.

    i have a 7800gtx
    1 gig ocz plat
    amd 3200 @2.6ghz
    dfi lanparty
    baraccuda 7200.something
and so forth... my brother has a very similar computer but has 2 gigs and it never lags... BF2 takes up over 900 mbs on my comp so it totals over 1100 with my windows stuff... virtual mem doesnt do anything either

should i buy 2 gigs of ram

Yes, in order to run bf2 on high, you need at least 2 gigs of ram.

Yes, BF2 uses 1.5GB of RAM, so 2GB is needed. The High textures take up a lot of memory in this game. For now if you'd like, set it to medium and I'm sure you'll see a jump.

I've heard good things about mushkin ram, but the best oc ram out there right would be this (I think):

do you work for corsair?? lol just kidding, using ball park figures BF2 uses about 750mb (you can check this by launching a game then alt-tab and bring up task manager) leaving windows xp 250mb which needs atleast 256mb to run) so you add these two figures together 750mb+256 = your total physical RAM. whilst you will still have virtual memory available this is taken from hard disk space which will slow down your system, i have found that 1.5GB irons out the HD loading of texture files dramatically

it depends on what resolution you are running. check out my sig, it is how i kept total usage under 1GB, but if i pushed it harder i could easily hit 1.2GB of total ram usage, so bf2 was using ~1GB.
