    my recommendations:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3200-3500+ = You play other games than BF2 probably, chances are. Still need a decent CPU for some of the newer games...

Memory: 2GB for everything up. Still kinda dependant on what video card. 1.5 is a good number for some system configurations.

Video Card: 6800GT AGP/ 6800 256mb edition/6800GS on PCI-E, or ATI x8xx series with 256 mb of Vram, or better - allows you to play at high with 1.5/2gb of ram. For even higher FPS, a 7800/X1800 series card will definately do the trick.

Hard Drive - not a big variable, but a good, fast and defragmented hard drive will keep things running smooth in-game

Sound Card - Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS or X-FI - off load the sound componant off the CPU to the sound card - it does help significantly.
the sound is not that big of a deal as i run with onboard sound no problem, even at medium settings it sounds fine.

also, why would you recommend a 6800vanilla? a 6600gt will beat that.

No it won't. But the 6800 isn't worth it anymore. 6800GS is like $20 more.

you want two 7800's, 2 gigs, and at least and AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+

Why a Dual Core? BF2 doesn't even use Dual Cores.

You have to be mentally ill if you think a 6600GT beats a 6800 vanilla.

did you even look at the link i listed? and i may be mental but according to the link i provided, it shows the 6600gt beating a 6800vanilla in more than one setting

6600GT and 6800 vanilla are the same in terms of performance.

But get the 6800 because there are chances of unlocking the extra pipes and more overclocking headroom.

Those cards have nearly identical performace on stock settings. One has more pipelines, the other has higher clocks.

Nvidia is starting to optimize their drivers for dual cores, so yes in a way it does help. It will keep getting better too.

As for the 6600GT, it only comes with 128mb RAM. It would probably be fine compared to the normal 6800 as long as you set a high aperature and had lots of RAM.

It's okay, but it is kinda sad that ati's newest generation of cards is pretty much equal to nvidia's, except the 7xxx series came out about 6 months ago.

I have a 2.8 Athlon, 1 gig of Ram, and a X800 Pro, and I run my settings at high smoothly. So I think the 3200, and 2 gigs of Ram is an overstatement.

I think with a 2.8 and 1 gig of RAM and a kick ass graphics card you can easily run it at a high setting.

my x300 and 1GB of memory I run it with all the settings on low and 100% FOV and it still isn't that good.

How??? In many many benchmarks, the 6800GS come near identical to the 6800GT. There is a big gap between the 6600GT and 6800GT. Therefore the 6800GS is a much better card? Yes?

                                espion is referring to the 6800, not a 6800gt, not a 6800gs, just a plain vanilla 6800.
