    new mobo and 7800gt

Before I throw all this stuff into the box like a mad man I wanted to get a answer to a question I have. Do I have to reformat if im installing a new motherboard? I know I can swap vid cards out just fine without reformating, but im stepping up froma 754 socket to a 939 and from a amd 64 2800+ to a amd 643200+. Will I have to reformat or can I just plug it all in and let windows to the work?

no u dont have to reformat, but its usually a good idea if you havent done it in awhile, all u have to do is load all the new motherboard drivers that come on the cd and u should be good to go.

You should back up your data, switch mobos and reformat.

Yeah, it's a really good idea to re-format.

Generally its a good idea to reformat, otherwise you'll have driver conflicts unless you can uninstall your old motherboard drivers using DC3 Pro, but the only ones that I remember seeing listed were for nForce chipsets.

I've never been able to swip mobos or cpus and still have Windows work. Like everyone else has said, back everything up then switch the hardware.

Switching chipsets and especially platforms almost always requires a reformat/reinstall of windows.

Your motherboard dictates addresses for your hardware components, and the current Windows installation will have the settings for your previous motherboard. You'll be lucky if Windows even starts with the new motherboard.

In other words, as all the others say: Do a full format.
