AMD 3700+ San Diego any good?

I've been eyeing this for my pc, does anyone know if its any good and if its a reliable processor?
It has 1 mb cache and its around 230 dollars..from reviews people say it overlocks to 2.6 GHz...


So anyway, anyone know if its worth getting or should I get something more expensive like a 4000 instead?

It's pretty good, but if you're going to oc get a opteron. There really isn't a difference between the clawhammer and san diego, except the san diego has a better memory controller (I think).

Im not big on OCing. How much will I be able to OC it without having to add extra cooling?

Not sure, since every proc is different, I'd say at least 2.6ghz, maybe more.

It seems very good. Its been added to my list xD
Now all that's left is a way of finding 800 dollars so I can buy everything I need :P
Hopefully, there will be some sales around Christmas xD

Mine did 2.8ghz @ 1.56volts 24/7 with a XP 90 heatsink and 92mm Delta fan. Note it was a CABGE stepping.

I got the AMD 64 3700 San Diego 1Mb L2 with Win XP 64 & 2Gig RAM 6800GT BF2 has run flawless everything on high dont see any need to overclock it yet.

the 3700 sandy has a 90nm instead of 120nm like the clawhammer.. stay away from the claw..

the 3700+ is one of the best overclocking proc's even with cabbage steppings people can reach 2.7 to 2.8.. just little more price drop and it would be the best bang for buck processor.

Thats a broad question. You'll need some non-ecc, unregistered, 184 pin DDR SDRAM with a speed ratinng of at least PC3200. Asus may have a memory compatibility list on their site, but I'd think most any ram fitting those criteria would work.

Yeah, I've been thinking about givin mine a quick bump up to 2.6ghz, just so I can say I have a x2 5000+. I just don't have any extra money right now, so if I fry this one, I'm totally hosed.

Leave the voltage stock if you are afraid of frying it. I'd at least and very least see what stock volts will get.
