AMD athlon 64 fx or athlon 64 x2 4800+ duel core

Just wondering which processor would I need, i'll be playing games alot but I will also be making 3d models in lightwave 3d. Which one would be more suited and what would you get? I've heard that the fx is more suited for games and the 4800+ more suited for digital media, and because I do both of those I was just wondering.

How about X2 or Opteron... since they're both dual core, what would be better?

Opteron. I haven't been keeping up, but I think the Opterons are more expensive that the A64s now?

Opterons are usually cheaper than the x2's, oc way better and are just better all around.

                They also have 1M L2 x 2 on all of the dual core Opteron 939 processors. Where the X2's 3800, 4200, and 4600 all have 512k x 2. Opteron > X2.

Opterons FTW, Here's fast dual core opteron: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103581
Here's very fast single core opteron: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103590
I belive they are cheaper than their fx/x2 counterparts. Plus, they can overclock MUCH more, especially with a nice stepping (CABYE or CABNE, even with a CABGE which is bad, you can still overclock to around 3.6ghz). The reason for this higher overclocking and stuff is because AMD actually tests all opterons for stability and such, which they dont for the regular A64/X2/FX series.

Right on all points, but 3.6? Man, I must've been looking at the wrong charts.

The equivalent of the 4400+ would be the Opteron 175 which is priced from $461 OEM to $525 retail.
