Hi all, I’m looking at upgrading my 9800 pro to a 6600 GT or 6800 GT. What would the performance difference be between the 2 GTs? Here in NZ, the 6800 GT (AGP version) is more than twice the price of the 6600 GT, but is it more than twice as powerful? I am not planning to do any overclocking. Would there be an alternative that gives good performance for a good price? How much better would a 6600 GT be compared to my current 9800 Pro? My other specs are: 2.8 P4 w/HT, 2GB DDR400 RAM running at dual channel. Thanks for any info.

Considering your ram, the 6800GT will get you every up to the highest settings. However, the 6600GT might not. If you happend to have only 1GB, it manages to achieve mostly medium, some low. But considering you have 2GB worth of ram, it may reach to everything at medium, possibly high.
I would recommend the 6800GT, it would be a great investement for Battlefield 2, and also for any future gaming.

He's completely correct, with your ram, the 6800gt will get you all high.

Ok, sounds like the 6800 GT would be the best choice to get the best out of BF2. Just one more thing, would a 400w PSU be enough to power it? I had to upgrade when I got my 9800 pro and hope this won't be necessary again.

Yes, I'm also about to buy a new card and the 6800 GT requires a 300 Watt supple. Google "6800 GT minimum requirement" and make yourself sure about it:)Originally posted by DodgeThisOk, sounds like the 6800 GT would be the best choice to get the best out of BF2. W 400 W supply you could get the 7800 GT

Just one more thing... AGP versions of the 6800 GT seem to be all but phased out completely. Are they actually inferior to the PCI-E versions? Would I be missing out on perfomance if I get the AGP version? Thanks.

^^^They perform almost identically. The 6800 GT is being phased out in favor of the 6800 GS on PCIexpress platforms, but I'm not sure about the AGP version. I think AGP is far from dead considering ATI will be offering an AGP version of the X1800.
