Since my Japanese aint exactly 'tip-top' I think you guys know better then the "yes yes vely good" kid in the big chain stores:)

My specs:
DELL OPTIPLEX GX280
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.4GHz
2 GB RAM
and about 60 GB left off my 230ish harddrive(gosh, where did all that go?)

And also, on a sidenote, what would be the first thing I would need to update on my computer eventually??

Please tell us what kind of slot your computer uses for graphics cards. If you don't know, download everest, and that should tell you.

the 7800GT only comes in PCI-e , and if your system has AGP you can't use it in your system, simple as that .

for checking wich one you have.

right mouse click on your desktop, propertys, settings, advanced, then click on the tabs above on the name of your curent videocard, there you will see BUS and next to it wich bus is it (AGP or PCI-e) if it says AGP you can't get a 7800GT

Motherboards can have a PCI-E slot an, an AGP one and the AGP one might be the one the graphics card is using, for various reasons.

those motherboard do excist but are specialiced mobo's and very very rare .
If the guy would have a motherboard like this, he should have looked and asked for this specific mobo with those specs.
the fact he doesn't even know some things about AGP and PCI-e means he doesn't have a mobo with AGP and PCI-e .

yes your computer only uses pci-e, just make sure you PSU can't handle the new card.

Youe PSU might be the first thing that need to be upgrade to run that new video card.

Well, if you don't mind opening up your case, there should be a sticker on the side of the psu, please tell us the wattage and the amps on the 12v rail.

Ok, checked it out and the sticker is right between two big boxes thats so close that I dont dare to unscrew them or anything like that.
I did search around alot on the net and found that the specs for my comp., GX280 Mini Tower 3.4GHz uses a DC power supply wattage of 305W
I dont know about the Voltage on the 12 V rail(which I dont know where it is)

I also read the minimum req for a 7800 GT and it needs 400W?!! So it seems I'm out of luck with that model... or is it possible for me to use it without frying components or having the card only work at like 50%? (I guess not)

I checked out the card under 7800GT, the 6800GT 512Mb and this requires a min of 300W... would that be a better card to get for me?

you can just buy a new PSU for like 80 dollars or so.
Dont get a cheap PSU as it will risk you ruining your 300 dollar 7800 GT video card.

I 'feel' that I will be OK with a 6800GT for now and when I've done a bit more reading, and/or live in a country where I can communicate with the salesmen, I might just upgrade PSU and card... hmmm...

Unless you guys recommend me doing something else?:)
