    AGP Question

I'm planning on buying a geforce 6600 256mb 8x agp, but my graphics controller is only agp 4x, so does that mean the card supports up to 8x or just 8x?
and i dont really have the money for a new motherboard.

EDIT: ok since ive been recommended the 128mb card, would you guys recommend the 6600gt 128mb 128bit agp card?

EDIT x2: what is the extra power connector, what is it for and where do I get one?

    Re: AGP Question

i would guess it would limit it to 4x, and plus dont get the 256 mb version, get the 128 mb version since ive heard that its a 128 bit card, so the extra 128 mb is a waste, oh and get a 6600gt, its ALOT!!!! better than the 6600.

Up to 8x, it should work on 4x. Also I believe that card requires an extra power connector as well, so be sure you have an extra one of them handy.

Correct, you wont see a difference between 4x and 8x anyway.

                Re: AGP Question

You probably just have to plug in an extra molex connector. Nothing serious, your psu should have a couple spare.

You don't need to buy anything extra, the connectors are attached to your psu.

                      Re: AGP Question

You do however need to make sure your PSU is good enough to handle it. Chances are if your computer is old enough that the AGP is only 4x, and your computer is pre-built, I doubt you have a very good PSU.
