question about my computer's performance

First off, specs:

Intel P4 3.8
Asus P5ND2-SLI Deluxe
Leadtek Winfast 7800 GTX
1 GB OCZ Gold Series DDR2 667 Dual Channel
Creative X-fi XtremeMusic
WD Caviar 250GB SATA2

My last 3dmark05 score was 7807. While its not bad I thought I'd be getting in the 8000's. Oh, I don't have anything overclocked, all stock. I don't know, I'm probably wrong, but I just expected to have a little better score.

I think your score is perfectly normal, realy, 3DMark05 is realy hard.

My system
AMD 4000+ running at 2.6 Ghz (200hz OC)
7800GTX running at 490/1350

as you can see both CPU and Vid card are OC's , vid card even prety hard, and I got 8609 points.

You better took an AMD man, those OC much better then those intells, My 4000+ is Running 200hz higher then stock and stressed it's only 40 degrees (there is a zalman 9500 cooler on it)

Just wondering what you have your 3D settings for D3D and OGL in your control panel set to. You need to realize that your drivers and settings affect your score. Most people put thier graphics settings to app preference and high performance when they run 3Dmark tests.

Hey, thanks for everyones replies. If thats about normal than thats great. I was worried something was wrong that I couldn't see.

I think I should have actually gone AMD. This prescott thing runs hot as hell. Oh well, its alright. With my zalman 7700 under load its about 50-55C. Which isnt bad I think.

I didn't try the high performance thing, I try it out though.

Get another 1GB of memory. Intel Machines really benifiet from this.

Also down the multiplier and up the FSB. I did it and saw a 300 point jump in 3D Mark 05

Having 1Gb of ram performs better on 3Dmark 05 than 2Gb.

Indeed, you have top of memory, look up on the net how fast this memory can go, then turn up the FSB but do not forget to lower your multiplier and make shure your cpu still runs his Mhz or bit higher.

about the GB extra memory, it would be good for BF2 , but mostly progs like 3Dmark go slower with big amounts of ram

Haha, I was running a computer that got 2200 or so. The improvement of this new one, even had it turned out to be low, is nice.

I've been considering overclocking, but I've never done it and I'm not sure if I going to try or not. I'll have to think about it some more and find a good site about overclocking.

the only thing that i see is that you need 2 gb of memory and windows xp...

by the way you would have done better getting an amd64...
