Exactly, that's why i try to steer away somebody trying to get a FX-57 when they will be playing on max settings. As they will see no difference between a 3000+ and a FX-57. ANd pure speed, nobody needs anything over 100 fps (just for insurance, as fps drops in intense firefights at times.)

Nah man. Clock speeds are very important, BF2 or not.

If I ever recommended a Sempron 64 3000+ to anyone, I would have them overclock it to 2.6GHz...

So.. I'm about to buy a new computer in January... I should get an AMD processor and AMD motherboard? Sweet.. I've been so confused. Whats the difference?

AMDs do more per MHz than Intels, so they can match up at lower speeds.

But AMDs are designed differently too. I don't mean that one is designed using a stone, and the other using a knife. I'm talking about how they work. The Athlon 64 design helps it in games.

                  Re: Cpus and BF2

Synthetic benchmarks like these do not show the whole picture. When you play an actual online session you have a lot happening that takes CPU power. The network traffic, your controllers (mouse/joystick/keyboard), sound, the hitdetection and other calculations that increase when more players join the server. I went from an overclocked Sempron 3100+ (2.52Ghz at almost 500FSB) to an AMD 64 Venice (2.52Ghz at 460FSB). With the Venice the FPS is clearly better in all situations. I could also increase some graphic settings.

In the benchmarks you see no difference between socket 754 and 939 which has almost double the bandwidth. Since both my CPU's are running at the same speed the difference is the cache of the CPU and the memory bandwidth.
