how much will ram help me?

I currently have an average computer

windows xp
20 gb
athlon 2700+ (2.2ghz)
radeon 9800

and the sad part 512mb of ram.

This christmas im getting 300 bucks to spend but i dont know what to spend it on, because my computer overheats easily(maybe due to i havant opened the case and cleaned for dust for a year now) ill clean for dust later and see how it goes. But the question is how much will ram help me out? Ive been doing fine with 512mb my load times are ok (load everything in about 40 seconds, with 3 mins of verifying client data), i get good fps (avg 40 fps in all medium-high settings with no anti aa) but it does stutter alot. How much ram should i get? and will it help my load times and stuttering problems?

another 512 or 2 gigs if you want to spend the $$.

RAM would help........ but cleaning out your computer will probably do more. Also check to make sure your fan is working properly if your computer overheats alot

Ram will help you in loading maps faster, and having less in game stutter due to page file usage. You should be able to play on 1024x768 medium/high settings with 1Gb of ram.

Get atleast another 512. If you can get a matched pair of 512's for 1GB and put that into your system. It will give you 1.5GBs which will run very nicely. The game will be able to run on High/Medium (more settings on high) with that setup (but don't hold me to it).

i just upgraded from 512 to 2gb and i knocks 5 mins of the loading times also have no need for virtual memory any more which will slow your comp down. paid £235 for 2x1gb kingston mem. you will notice a big difference

I recommend getting sum fans for u PC and getting 2 GB Ram with Heatsinks.

CPU = Pencil
RAM = Paper

One of the best ways I’ve ever been taught to realise what the two do for the computer. Generally speaking it’s pointless to go over 2GB RAM, but getting 2GB... especially on bf2 is an awesome difference in gp. Anything past that you won't really notice.

if you can sell your 512, buy two gigs if you play everything on high or if you want to. but since you VGA is only a 9800 i would just buy another 512
