    First AMD Socket F Pictures

These guys have some "leaked" pictures of AMD's upcoming Socket F. This will provide support for DDR2 and, in the future, allow an integrated PCI Express controller to be put on the CPU along with improvements to the existing memory controller..

FYI, Socket F = server cpus like the opteron, unless that changed. Socket 940 is where the mainstream desktop CPUS (64, X2, FX) will be. Just looking at that though, kinda scares me...1207 PINS!?! Just about 2 years back, I was all over 462/478 pins..that were on a CPU.

Either way, M2 looks really promising. This should drive down DDR2 prices by quite a bit.

This doesn't really mean anything to gamers though; what WE are waiting for is AMDs socket M2, which will give DDR2 support.

That kind of looks like Intels LGA775 wich the CPU has no pins, is the socket that does =)

I don't think DDR2 is gonna be as big of a deal as people percieve it to be.
