    Hard drive going bad ???

I had this HD for like a year now and now I don't know if it's going bad on me or my problem has nothing to do with my hard drive. The problem is that windows is allways missing a file every morning I start on my computer. The error says something like this, Windows could not start because system/something?? is either missing or corrupt. to try to repait this file use the win xp CD and press "R" at the first screen...BS! that don't work. Why is it only in the morning? Is the problem my hardrive loosing windows info? or is it a software or other problem? I just restart my computer ones or twice and everything goes back to normal

Have you scanned your HDD for any errors, defrag, etc.? Try doing a re-format and install winxp again (I know it may sound to inconvenient). What kind of HDD do you have? How long have you had it?

Yup done all that,I re-format and isntall windows like every 2 weeks since sometime it just won't start because it's missing a file. It's a Maxtor 160gb IDE Ultra ATA133.I also have 2 74gb WD raptors SATA and a WD80gb SATA but windows XP is installed on the Maxtor.

It sounds as if the drive might be going bad, so you should back up your data as soon as possible and swtich to a diff drive.

Try switching drivers then. Western Digital > Maxtor. Put the OS and games on the Raptors and use the rest for storage.

I have 2xWD 74GB Raptors [RAID-0] and its pretty cool. I have a personal server with 300GB of storage where I keep all my other stuff.
