Opteron 146 or 3700+ San Diego?

I've been back and forth between these two chips and I still can't decide. There's about $80 to be saved with the 146, but it's so cheap that you'd think there's something missing. Any ideas/suggestions?

EDIT: Just in case it's important, I'm planning on running it in a DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR.

Nothings missing. Only difference between the Opty 146 and 3700+ San Diego is the Opty is .2 GHz slower. Thats easily made up though, with the Opty's amazing overclocking.

Ahem the 3700 is one of the best OCing chips out there. People are hitting 3.0Ghz on stock air cooling with stock voltages. Look around on some OC forums.

Ok, OPT or 4000+SD? so basically dual core is the way to go? I have a DFI SLI-DR as well and want to OC.

If you want the utmost performance, get the opty, but if you want a little insurance for the future, get a x2 3800+.

Opteron 14x's I heard were nice OCers, better than Venice-core and can break 4000+ performance with damn good cooling. A 3700+ is also good if you dont plan to OC...

Not even close. Mine was exceptional and could only hit 2.9Ghz with a XP90.

If you want the utmost performance, get the opty, but if you want a little insurance for the future, get a x2 3800+.

Actually a better choice would be the opty 165, 170, 175, or 180.

Agreed on both counts, I just forgot that they have dual core 1xx optys now.

why only get one opteron? they are built to come in pairs... :) buy 2 of them and a nice nForce 4 Pro board with PCI-E 16x and slap a 7800GTX in there. that way you have great game performance and an enormous amount of processing power for multiple applications at the same time.
