Ok, this is just my happy rant because as of yesterday I officially became a member of the AMD club. My new stuff came yesterday and my friend and I kicked back and put it all together.

Before I was running a:

P4 2.8 H/T,
2gigs Kingston Valueram,
EVGA 6800GT

Now I have switched too:

AMD 64 4000+
2 Gigs (1gig x 2) OCZ Platinum RAM
BFG 7800GTX OC

All my other parts are the same and of good quality (Raptor Hard drives and stuff) and HOLY s***!!!!!!!!! My new system SCREAMS through all these games. I used to really have to watch my setting on games (especially BF2) as well as FEAR, Quake, COD2 and all that. Now I just crank it up as high as they go a sail along smooth as silk…..no slowdown whatsoever. I am completely floored at the performance increase from AMD to Intel (gaming wise). I know my new video card is great and does make an improvement over the 6800GT but I had been using it with my P4 2.8 for about a week and after I got the AMD CPU running everything ran 100% faster and better with higher settings.

selling it on ebay I suppose. It's an EVGA 6800GT with an NV5 Artic Cooler on it. It's only 5 months old. Got it for my b-day the end of may.

Yup, I have a 3.4Ghz Intel P4 and it will be my last.

I'm looking to get by Feb.

I got it all of newegg after shipping and tax for I think, $1467 or something and it was well worth it. I'll only be paying about 350 out of pocket because I have already sold everything else to friends misus the 6800GT. The only thing I wasn't happy about price wise was the new copy of Windows XP Pro (RIP-OFF)

BF2 has a new enjoyment as it speeds right along with no slowdown and EVERYTHIGN cranked to high, 4xAA and I went with 8xAF. I really couldn't be happier with my PC. It's not the BEST out there but damn it's fast and works well.

The 6800GT is PCI Express and the ram from my intel board is DDR2 533 mhz.

I am on the verge of being a AMD club member also (switching from P4), I have everything except the CPU. my mobo is DFI SLI-DR (socket 939) and was looking @ the fx-57 or Athlon64 x2 4800 +Toledo (dual core). any suggestions? as you know, price is no concern. and this will be a gaming pc. thanks in advance!

I was going the same route as you are looking to go and I'd say just go with the X-2 series cause the FX are WAY too over priced for what they can do.

Also to take into consideration is this upcoming year of the new things AMD and Intel are doing...

So if you want to spend ALL that money go ahead but look at where they're going right now. That's why I went with a 4000 cause it hauls a** and didn't set me back up to $1000 and all the new stuff will be coming out in 2006.

I have never looked back since going from Intel to AMD (gaming wise), I to am hoping to buy a new CPU and motherboard, after christmas, going from a AMD 3000+ Barton to AMD64 4000+ San Deago, but may need a new GFX card my Glaxay Glacier 6800GT seems to be acting up, every now and again I get GFX lockup all the screen just freezes full of colour squares.

I have striped the GFX card and noticed 2 dry spots on 2 memory chips going to get some more thermal compound and put it on see if that helps.

I hope it does as I can not really afford to buy a new GFX card it has taken me nearly 6 months to save for the CPU and motherboard (being disabled)..

I was looking at the one myself until I looked around and looked at the benchmark results for the 4000 and the only thing ahead of it was the FX-57. I just figured dual core isn't worth it right now when you can wait a little bit to see where they go with things and if dual core really comes into play (expecially for gaming) and by then the X2 4800 will cost as much as the 3800 ya know. It's completly up to you, I'm just telling you what I considered when doing this since I was with Intel before. The X2's WILL work on the 939 sockets so don't worry about the mobo....besides the 4000 just SMOKES through everything I've thrown at it and seems to only giggle at me

I hate this stuff cause as soon as I get something, the next biggest thing is on it's way out but truthfully I think it's more of a mental upgrade then an actual performence one because nothing is really taking advantage of the capabilities of the new products.

As it always has been, software is still WAY behind hardware.
