O.K. i have e nvidia 7800 card 490/1.3 processor pent.4 3.2 GHz 2gbts ram (kingston). my power supply is the one that came with my pc a gateway (new) pci express 506gr.. do i need to upgrade to one of those type thats advertised when you by ur card. and what would be the difference ; would i see if any --------thanks majsmt-------------------

i believe you need atleast a 450w power supply. The Higher the supply the more efficent it is as well. It can actually pay for itself with the money you save in electricity. :) -

How do you figure that one Sin? The computer will use the same amount of power rating regaurdless of the PSU. Its really the efficiency and the heat created that is the big difference.
No offense Maj, but its nearly impossible to pick your specs out of that jumbled mess of a paragraph, formatting is always a good idea.
And most likely yes you will need a new power supply. Usually prebuilts come with a 300 watt PSU, the 7800GTX requires a 400Watt minimum, but I woiuld recommened either 450 or above.Comment

Im running a Enermax 485watt on 7800GTX and it works GREAT!
Be careful on changing out a power supply on a computer from a company (Gateway, Dell etc) as I learned the hard way. All their stuff (motherboard, psu etc) is proprietary and is designed to ONLY accept things from them in the supplied cases. Basically, all the parts really only piece together with other gateway parts if that makes any sense. I learned a $700 lesson on that one.Comment
