Hi I'm Building a NEW PC, and i would like to have any comments towards to specs I layed down below..

Case - Thermaltake Tsunami Mid Tower $115

Processors - AMD Athlon64 4000+San Diego $334

Motherboards - Asus Nvidia nForce4 SLI $169

Memory - Corsair ValueSelect 2GB(2x1gb) $166.16

Video Cards - eVGA GeForce 7800GT 256MB $369
(Free copy of Call of Duty 2)

Sound Cards - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme8 $126

Hard Drives - Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA $78

CD/DVD Burners - Samsung Black DVD Burner OEM $40.99
CD/DVD ROM - Sony Black DVD ROM OEM $22

Power Supplies - Silverstone 650W SLI ready $169.99

Operating System - MS XP Professional with SP2 OEM $135

(AMC 8" 4-pin power cable - FREE )

Everything was Configuered from Newegg.com and it came out to
$1,725.09 + Tax $125.07 + Shipping $36.80 = $1,886.96

if i missed something or any recommendations you would like to add, please let me know..

Looks good but i would go with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ or maybe even spend alittle more and get the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ but thats just me

If you want gaming performance stick with the Athlon 4000+. The equivalent gaming X2 is the 4800+ which is very expensive. However, if you use your computer for mostly video encoding or intense multi thread programs go for an X2.

Dont get talked into the usual...."games will use dual core CPU soon" talk. Some games will support them soon, but it will be a long time before there will be any major performance jumps.

This might not happen to you, but as a warning -

I originally bought OEM XP(SP2) when I built my PC, it installed OK. I later re-formatted & re-installed XP. I then went through the activation process, and Micro$oft refused to activate it. I spoke to someone on the phone & they said it was because it was OEM. I explained it WAS bought with hardware, but the b*stards refused to activate it, saying OEM was only allowed to be activated once. I've done it before at work, but they were not playing ball. Had to buy the full-blown version. Dammit.

Not sure if all Nvidia nForce4 mobo's have this problem, but mine would only work wit SATA drives if they were RAID0 striped ??

How many hard drive were you running? IF you had two drive through SATA you shouldn't had to make it RAID.

I just bought the same CPU except for I went with the DFI Lanparty Ultra mobo, 2 gigs of OCZ Platinum RAM and a BFG 7800GTX. I spent so much time researching online what the best route would be to go and everythign was just pointing to the 4000 cpu. Then I went to my buddy's house and saw his system (same thing) running FEAR in 1920x???? (widescreed monitor) and how smooth and amazing it ran and I was SOLD.

Very true games wont need dual core for awhile and i only said dual core because its better at running more then one program and i myself run alot while playing anyways the 4000 should be fine i was just saying lol good luck

The only thing that I see that is a question mark for me is the ram. The ValueRAM is alright, but you'd be better off getting something like XMS, Hyper-X or if you can afford it Ballistix from Crucial.

If you want uber then no, otherwise yes. Might as well get a higher speed X2. Like a 4400 or 4800.
