The titanium ram is used in servers and you are just paying extra for it.

So AMD Dual Core is better than FX-57? In what areas is it better in?

NOT FOR GAMING , and actualy not better in lots of things, most people buy dual core but don't use it, realy funny.

As today most programs (like 90% of them) aren't written for dual core, so the only advantage you can get out of your dual core is doing things like letting some files rendering while you are gaming or doing something else, but then you have the problem both want to use the RAM, and both programs are going to get slowed down because they can't use the RAM they want.

At this moment speaking FX-57 is the very best CPU for gaming, and is a very good CPU for OC , you get it unlocked in the box and you can push those things realy hard

The FX57 is also $1000. In reality, the system I presented will last him well into the future. As far as the gaming claim.....

          Far Cry (1280x1024)
          X2 4600+ : 86.7
          FX-57 : 86.5

          3D Mark 05 (CPU)
          X2 4600+ : 6072
          FX-57: 5789

          Doom3 (1280x1024)
          X2 4600+ : 80.8
          FX-57 : 81.2

          Wolfenstien (1280x1024)
          X2 4600+ : 182.9
          FX-57 : 208.8

          Unreal Tourn. 2004
          X2 4600+ : 155.9
          FX-57 : 183.4

It lacks in gaming a little bit, but above about 80FPS the human eye cannot tell the difference. Everyone says "dual core is a few years off" but I disagree. The market is getting more and more saturated with both Intel and AMD dual core processors, so it will be here sooner then people think.
The titanium ram has nice low CAS numbers and also will serve him well for OC'ing should he choose to do so.

you actualy gave the proof the dual core isn't so good for games, let my explain.

as you can see far cry and doom don't realy perform better with the FX-57 , why ? because in games like that the videocard is the bottleneck, those games are vid card breakers.

Then games as UT and wolfenstein are a piece of cake for vid cards, they are older and do not use as many features and stuff , there the CPU is the bottleneck , there you see the FX-57 outperforming the dual core with a bigger difference.

And I didn't say your CPU isn't good, but it's not the best, and the point is , single core is still better for gaming then dual core, and this is the same for most programs out now.

Right but you'd also pay about $600 more for the FX-57. So if its worth it to get an FX-57 for you then by all means do, but to me it isn't worth the extra cash because you'd have to cut back other places. Remember he will be running 2x7800GTX's OC'd stock, so I'm guessing it won't be much of an issue for him.

I didn't say it should be stupid to buy the FX-57 , and it should be better to buy the 4000+ or something, but the topic is about 4000$ to spend, so get the dam FX-57 , mony seems not to be an isue here

Perhaps for longevity but I tried it and it X2 does not load balance. I built my rig for under $4k. Wouldn't change a thing.

Maybe something was wrong with yours then, cause mine balances perfectly. It could just be that I'm the anomaly though.

another thing abou those dual core cpu's.

Many developers of games and other software have already anounced it's extrmely hard to program effective for dual core, and it will take several years before this technologie is actualy realy intresting.
Some even said (Valve for example) it's almost impossible !!
And because it's so hard to program for, the develop time for games will be much longuer if you want it to fit the dual core like it should.

For studio's as DICE this won't mean a longuer developing time but rather bringing out a game who has even more bugs then the games they bring out now
