    X800XL or 6800GT?

Hello, I decided to upgrade my GPU to the next level from 6600GT.

So which one should I get X800XL or 6800GT. Both almost exactly the same price.

Feel free to post screenshots if you're using one of these cards...

    Thanks for any help.

(Links to manufacturers and full specs on the names.)

I have posted the fishing pics in the media section and ill get some more screenshots for you by later today. I am using the x800 xl and it runs the game with all settings ultra high 6xaa , 100%vd , It scoffs at me , yawns , and pretty much sasy is that the best you can throw at me?

also these pics are jpg and dont truly show the quality the x800 xl pumps out visually..... the ONLY problem is shadows which you can see here in this picture are a lil ugly even on ultra high with the x800 xl. You get proper shadows just fuzzy at the edges. hopefully this will get fixed with new drivers but it still doesnt subtract much from the amazing visuals it produces

I've found the x800xl to be cheeper than the 6800gt. On ebay, they are about $240 for a new one, while the 6800gt is usually $300 or more.

6800 gt is a generally better card.

              1) Those pictures don't look like ultra to me.
              2) What's wrong with the shadows?

Upload a picture in PNG format. So we can really see the quality.

My X800 is smooth as a babies bottom...I'm running all high with 4XAA..1024X768 (I think that'S the res) and I'm too chicken to push 'er some more.

the 6800GT beats the ATI equivelent hands down in virtually every benchmark although thats largly down to it using opengl.

ultra high is basically high with extra textures and more pronounced features. These are jpeg files and if they dont look ulta to you thats great but please post a screenshot or two yourself. the shadows on some objects are fuzzy. Atleast on ultra high they move in respect to players and models , like you can get advanced warning of a player about to round a corner because of the sunlight to their back and their shadow is projected where it should be.

                    Fuzzy shadows:

                    Running behind a teammate:

The spec ops i shrunk down into my sig. :

on ultra high dynamic lighting, flashes of light from gunshots , or any type of explosion light up surrounding objects / models such as the c4 here... in the top right corner that tree is reflecting the flash.

                    Everything is much more detailed:

Take a close look at the shadows.

Running up to the enemy spawn to noob tube with a teammate:

                      Re: X800XL or 6800GT?

i say it's all dependent on the games you play. open gl games are beter with nvidia, ati is better with direct 3d. Not much difference between the two, and both can overclock reletively well. SO i can't just say straight out X800XL (even though that's the card i own), nor could i say straight ou 6800GT, both are good cards, if you get either one, they won't disappoint. OH, and here's a great card, if you have PCI-e, this is a great deal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131297
It's better than both the cards you said. THis is also a great del for PCI-e: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150108
It outperforms all of the listed above, and it comes with COD2 free if you register.

At this point I'm not quite sure which one I should get. Im just slightly on the 6800GT's side, because I can buy another one on SLi later and get up to 1.9x performance. And I play a lot of OpenGL games, but I'll give it a thought over this weekend. Feel free to post your opinion and some facts to back it up, no decision made yet.

I say you should go for the 6800GT then, but if you can spare the money, a 7800GT would be really nice, unless you have a monitor at 1600x1200 res or over, a 7800GT will outperform 2x6800GTs. So i would reccomend nvidia cards for your needs.

Graphically yes, i dont know how many frames per second youll get altho... 4000+ w/ 6800GT probably will. Maybe consider getting some more ram so it goes 100% stutter free.
