Re: Why Does My Computer Switch Itsself Off?

mine was doing that just switching off, what i found the solution by changing my DRAM command rate in the bios from 1T to 2T, are you running 2x512's? it may also be a temperature problem this would also cause it to switch off, if your temps are ok i suggest finding out what command rate your ram is set to

Is it switching itself off or just rebooting?

keep me updated on your progress, remember consult your motherboard manual for help with changing that command rate, you can also try increasing the voltage of the ram from its default 2.6v to 2.7v for stability, DONT go above 2.9v tho. it might be worth downloading memtest http://www.majorgeeks.com/Memtest86_d4226.html and put it onto a bootable cd or floppy to test your ram and make sure you have no errors, also drivers you should be running catalyst 5.10

Re: Why Does My Computer Switch Itsself Off?

It sounds like it's either a power or heat problem.
            Check the following:

            1. Once it turns itself off, turn it back on and enter the BIOS. What are your CPU and chipset temps? Also, check your graphic card temp.

            2. What kind of PSU do you have? BF2 eats up every single free resource your computer has to offer, and if the PSU can't power it all, your PC will reboot/turn itself off.

Re: Why Does My Computer Switch Itsself Off?

I'd certainly recommend getting a new power supply if it is a few years old.

Re: Why Does My Computer Switch Itsself Off?

it sounds to me like the PSU you have is underpowered for the job. Don't keep runnin it letting it power itself off becuase after like 5 times or so it will cook your graphics card.

Its not just thw wattage thats important btw its also the number of rails it has

Re: Why Does My Computer Switch Itsself Off?

Your video card is not a power hog - I had a 9600OPRO 128M and could easily run the whole machine (PIV 2,8, 2*512 RAM, 1HDD...) with a 300W PSU. If you have a 300W or more PSU from a decent maker I doubt if it's PSU. To be on the safe side you can google a bit and find a PSU calculator - you enter your components and it returns a minimum power. It ain't perfect, but at least should give you an overview of what you should have for your specs.
