Need Some Help With RAM Upgrades

Ok i need ur help guys. I have been gaming for quite a while but i have never had to do a major overhaul on my pc. I really dont plan to do any major overhauling for another two years becuase i just cant get on and play enough. However i would like to upgrade some things that are starting to age.

So here is what i want to replace.
Graphics card (i have done this b4 dont really need help)
    RAM <----- HELP!

Ok graphics is pretty easy. i know i have an agp slot that will support 4x/8x cards. but RAM confuses me. I dont know very much about the motherboard.

Here is what i am asking. What do i need to know to go ram shopping and what types (brands or products) would you recommend.

    Here is what i know
The RAM i have is 4 sticks DDR SDRAM (512mb each).

Thats it. I have everest home edition so i can find out a lot of stuff if i need to.

Well, ocz ram (gold or platinum edition) is good, but there's always mushkin, corsair, crucial, and many other makers. You already have 2gb's of ram, so save that money and spend it on a better graphics card.

          ok. comp stats.
My comp is a dell XPS (gen. 2)
          p4 3ghz
          Nvidia GEforce 5200 128 mb
          Sound blaster Audigy 2
2 gig ddr sdram (the ram is stock dell)
          120 gb hard drive

thats pretty much it. I looked into corsair cause i have seen some posts about it adn they said that it was good. O i also noticed that in my everest thing it said that my RAM is pc3200. is this specific to my motherboard or can i go up and down?

I would strongly recommend spending all of that money on an Nvidia 7800 card but if you MUST get new RAM get 2 1GB sticks of OCZ performance here. I have it and love it!

Buy a good videocard, no need to upgrade your RAM

I would love to get a 7800 but unforunately that would require a new mobo and processor. my current mobo has an agp slot and the 800 only supports pci-e. Also thanks a lot for you suggestion.

Have to agree with this. The performance gains from new ram will not justify the expense of replacing what you already have.
