low budget mobo, is this any good?

The motherboard i have now is total crap. It freezes... it crashes... the sound squeals but thats not the point.

I dont have much money to spend and i found a motherboard that seems to be alright. theres no reviews yet, so im holding back. i dont want to make the same mistake with my chaintech 7njl6

512 PC3200
5200 FX

I can already play BF2 on low settings fine, i was planning to save up and upgrade, but because of my crappy motherboard, i have to waste money getting a new one.

Is there anything wrong or im not seeing with the motherboard i plan to get?

P.S thats the price range im looking for not too much more hopefully ($=canadian)

Ok, just by looking at the vender, I gotta say no. Never buy anything from pc chips. They were the same ones who used to make 486 boards with fake cache. Keep looking.

I would say newegg, but you're in Canada. They may start shipping there as they just teamed up with UPS now. Anywho....try and get a name brand. Gigabyte has some lower end boards that are pretty decently priced.

That motherboard looks great but why does the IDE slots look like that?

one of the reviews talk about not having dual channel support. im not sure what hes talking about, but what will it affect when i use this motherboard over one with dual channel support?

The IDE slots are mounted 90degs to the mobo, thats why they look that way. DFI are certainly good but imo, the best socket A youll find is the Abit NF7-s V2.0. Cant go wrong there, but a little more than you are looking at.

Maybe the Epox 8RDA range might be good for your budget, i've had the earlier version of this before DDR400 and it was a great fast reliable board:

A couple of things,

1. Why do you and everyone else keep posting links to the US Tigerdirect, they do have a Canadian site,

2. Where in Canada are you? Depending on where you are, there may be some local shops with a better selection/price.

As for a good board, totally agree with Bushers, the NF7 v2.0 (S or non S) will be about your best choice. The only problem is that Abit discontinued the board a while ago and replaced it with the NF7-SG (plus a few other variations).

Actually, you were the first one to post a link to the American Tigerdirect.

Anyway, where about in Canada are you? May not be able to find a NF7 v2.0, but I know of a couple of places that do mail order and still have ASUS A7N8X-X boards ( a very good board with moderate overclocking capabilities) for between $70 and $80.

After going through the lowest priced motherboards I think this one from ECS is the best. It has the Nforce2 Ultra 400 chipset with dual DDR memory support. This motherboard is very similar to the more expensive Asus and Abit Nforce2 boards in configuration.
