Hey I have a laptop and decided that i was tired of onboard sound so i got a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit External sound card. It sounds good and everything and seems to work fine but when I set the audio renderer to Hardware, and in game the commands sound like EEE NNN EEE MM YYY FF OO RR CC EE SSS SS PP OO TT EE DD. So i tried the sound on medium instead of high and it still sounds like that. Then i tried setting it to software renderer, and it sounds normal. Is there something wrong? shouldnt the setting to use my external soundcard be hardware? In addition, I uninstalled the drivers for my onboard sound and disabled it as well. sooo I am not sure what the deal is. Lastly, I was thinking maybe because the soundcard is USB 1.1 but i figure it should still run the game on medium sound with hardware renderer. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong? or is it normal to set it to software renderer for external sound cards?

k, i set my hardware acceleration to None:emulation. And it cleared up all my problems, but I am wondering if there are any drawbacks to using emulation over full hardware acceleration. -

Your card does not support the Hardware Audio Renderer option. Using the hardware option will improve game performance a bit since some load is taken away from the CPU and done on the soundcard itself. Soundquality using hardware is better.Comment

That sound card, unfortunately, sucks the big one.
I feel terrible for anybody that got suckered into buying one
