IRQ problem

I remember reading a long time ago that people were having problems with their IRQ for their sound card and video card being the same. Well I recently reinstalled windows and been having random crashes to desktop while playing the game. I decided to check the IRQs and both are set to IRQ 16. Windows is not giving me the option to change the IRQ for ether one, sound or video. Any idea what I can do to get the IRQs different??

My system:
Athlon64 3500+
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 value
GeForceFX 5950 Ultra 256

Windows XP can be a tricky one to get reassigned but it can be done. And you are right, the sharing of those two devices is too much strain on the same interrupt.

Depending upon your motherboard, you can place the sound card in another PCI slot to see if windows will assign a new number. If you have several PCI cards installed, you can disable a COM port or two if you don't use them. That would free up an IRQ assignment and most likely place the sound card there.

FYI, the sound card usually wants to go to go to IRQ 5.
