Looks like you haven't checked anything since the 8x.xx beta drivers came out then.



You can now mix cards of the same series, meaning a 6800GT + 6800Ultra, 6600GT + 6800, etc. But not 6800Ultra + 7800GTX.

And both run at the slower cards speeds! Wow, and I thought original SLI was a waste being that the 2 combined equaled 1.5 cards worth of juice, they go and do this too?!

So you mix a 6600gt for example with a 6800gt...now you have a 6600gt +50% more juice. Effectively cutting in HALF the power of the 6800gt which by itself is better than 2 6600gt's.

What the hell where they thinking when they made this new techological marvel?

Get the OCZ Modstream ATX2.2 520W PSU and a 7800GT, its what iv got an its an amazing setup

The article mentions NOTHING at all about mixing 6600's with 6800's.
It quite clearly and in plain English says you can use cards from different manufacturers using "LIKE GPU's". You can however buy two idnetical cards whose only difference is the amount of ram on them.

Face it buddy...there is not one single article mentioning mixing cards...thay al say the same thing: mixing VENDORS(card makers) is what the new change is.

I spent an hour and a half looking for just one article talking about mixing 6600's with 6800's...guess what? I found ZERO!

So back to your original question: yes I made my sarcastic comment about running at the lower of the 2 speeds...because it makes perfect sense! I pulled it directly from my ass. The strongest link in a chain is always its weakest point. Logic.

You are completley wrong. All the new drivers let you do is mix different vendors, meaning you can mix a xfx 700gtx and a evga 700gtx. Not different cards.

Sorry, but this is important for people who currently own an SLI mobo.

Had we not straightened this out, they might have wasted their time and money trying to buy an incompatible new card.

Not anymore, thats why the new drivers are so important, because you can now mix and match diff. vendors, bios etc.. You also can enable sli without rebooting, which is nice.

Get another gig of RAM. And get the 7800GT so in the future you can have it in SLI.
